I am happy with the stock rims on my Altima Coupe 3.5SE, but I'd like a wider tire for improved handling. I've never had a vehicle with such narrow tires before. Can I use a 235/50R17 tire on the 3.5 rims without any rubbing or other problems? The overall diameter of the 235/50s is almost identical to 215/55 so my speedo will only be off by 0.1mph at 60mph. BTW the tires I am considering are the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Positions. I am also considering a 1" drop via Eibachs at some point.thanks,John

The upgraded tires you're considering, are 20 mm wider, but remember, that's 10 mm on each side. A 10 mm increase in tire width (from the center to the outside) should be just fine and should not rub at all, even over bumps!!!

Yeah, it'll work. You won't have to worry about rubbing because there is a lot of space in the wells on both sides. Are you seriously going with the Pole Positions? They are great sticky tires, but they wear very quickly. Try checking out the Falken FK452's. Same price range, better performance and better tread life.

Just be careful of bulging...you don't want to make too much rubber hang over the rim.
