I'm sure this has been done to death but I couldn't find a definitive answer just searching, so I apologize... But I have a 99 Pathfinder (pre-facelift) chilkoot edition with the stock suspension, and I had a question about tire size.

It has the same wheels as this one http://autocatch.com/used-cars/1998~nis ... 267589.htm which as far as I know, means it was originally equipped with 265/70/R15 tires... At some point, its tires were replaced with 235/75/R15's.

I saw another pathfinder with the same wheels today that was on 31x10.50r15's. So anyways, I was just wondering if I could put on 31's without it rubbing or having any other problems. Or should I just return to the stock size?

I'd rather go with the 31's because I am not fond of the short gearing (manual) on the highway, and even a slightly larger tire would help that. How far off would the speedo be with 31's? can it be adjusted?

Thanks a bunch!

From what I've read, 31s usually rub at full steering lock and some trimming might be required. Not sure how much the speedometer/odometer will be off with 31s.

Thanks for the reply :)
Can the people who put on the tires do the trimming for me or would I have to do it? and would you just check by turning the wheels all the way and seeing where it rubs, then trimming?

My 20's brand new with new rubber measured in at 29.5 if i recall. With the 20s my speedo is off about 3/3.5mph depending at what speeds. With my snow tires on the stock 16s it is 2/3mph depending what speed also, but the snow tires are beefier and taller then the stock tire size also.

And off meaning that if it shows 70 its showing more then your going. I verified this with 3 different GPS;s.

With the stock set-up, was your speedo bang on? Or was it still a little off?

I think even with stock it may have been off by 1-2 mph. I dont recall asi think i have always bought a little different size then stock when i had my 16s with all seasons. Last time i had them on was like 2007.

At 70mph I think my speedo is off by 2 or 3 MPH with stock size tires.
