i was wondering if a 225/40 18 tire would work on an 18x7.5 wheel. i know usually you would put a 215/40 on it but i am looking to get a specific tire and am hoping it will fit

Tire rack suggests a rim width range of 7.5-9" in that size. You should be fine.

ive got 235s on my 7.5in rim (front). screw those thin sizes, with the wider tires its damn near impossible to mess them up on a curb. the extra contact patch makes a world of difference too.

no such thing as extra contact patch, do some more research on that one. 235's on a 7.5 will have alot of flex in the tire. i would run no larger than 215's.

yes the 225 will fit, but it wont look good and may not clear coilovers depending on wheel diameter

what tire are you looking at getting, what are the rest of the wheel specs, what suspension are you running. these factor into whether it will fit

Exactly. This really belongs in the wheels/suspension forum, where the stickys tell you to provide more information.

Yes it will fit on the wheel, but without mods, offsets, and chassis we cant provide information in regards to your application.

Also, 235's dont provide more contact patch especially over a 215 on the same rim. Although wider rims and tires can CHANGE the contact patch, it simply doesnt increase. There are a plethera of threads on this subject, so start searching and reading if you really care. But, 235's on a 7.5 inch rim do prevent curb damage to your rims.
