Hey guys. After searching I found that SR_Smith posted awhile back in another thread that 225/50/15 would be fine on a 15x7. I currently have 195/60/15 on the rims on my S13 but they will need replacing soon and my SOHC blew so I'm also having an SR installed (FMIC, full 3" exhaust from the turbo elbow back, elec fans, stock boost). I want to save up for a helical instead of an LSD swap as this will be a DD and not raced/tracked/drifted. I'm worried about traction with the stock open diff and 195's though so I thought that I might bump up to the 225's for the larger contact patch. Is this going to work well? I currently run Eibach Sportlines and KYB GR2's but will be installing the NISMO S-tunes in the next few months for a drop of F 0.9" and R 0.6" instead of the current 2.2" (or 1.75" according to the suspension FAQ's page) from the Sportlines. I will be driving a lot and don't want to worry about dragging my downpipe or denting the SR's oil pan bc I already scrape a little in the car. I have no intentions of ever getting coilovers and will probably keep my 15's (since I will drive it a lot and 15's are cheap) and am not concerned about having the stretched look.

195/60/15's average about 24.2" in diameter225/50/15's average about 23.9" in diameter

According to the tiresize calculator @ http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.aspThe 225/50's will cause the speedo to read 60 mph as ~61 mph.

Thanks for any help .

225/50R15 may look a little too big and goofy on your car. I have 225/50R16, on my 16x7.5 +32, and I am wishing that I went a little smaller. You may rub a little if you put that big of a tire on, but I am not 100% sure.

Dude 225s will be huge on 7s, I don't even have 225s on stockie 5 lugs. I'd say either get wider wheels or buy better tires then the ones u are currently using. But as you said you daily drive it so why not just stick with 195s? Unless ur secretly hiding that u occasionally street race! Jay kay!

I used to run 215's on my old formula firebird. It had an LSD with 2.73 rearend gears (very tall and gas friendly/acceleration un-friendly) and in the rain it would very easily kcik the rearend out. I realize that the low-end torque had a lot to do with that, but I don't think ~200lb ft of torque in the rain to one wheel with ~4.08 rearend gearing and ~500lbs lighter will be much better. Plus although tires have a range of rim sizes they can fit they are measured for a certain rim size. A 195 is measured on a 6" rim w/a 5.5-7" range and a 225 is measured on a 7" rim w/6-8" range. So, I'm maxed out on the rim size for a 195 and at the ideal rim size for a 225. I don't care about stretching. It's for getting a wider rim on the car with a tire that still fits under the fender well/is flush with the fender and to compensate for tires with soft sidewalls, bc it makes them "stiffer". So the 225 is for a little extra grip via larger contact patch until I can cough up the $$ for a helical (not happening soon with having to pay for the swap and new suspension). IDK, maybe there's not that much a difference and I should just be uber careful until I get the helical.

LOL

205mm width / 55% of that = sidewall height / diameter of wheel they go on

i think 225's on 7 inch wide only work when youve got race tires, which have really stiff sidewalls

if you can find a 215 thatd be the widest id go, but id say overall your best bet would be to get 205's
