I have an 01 pathfinder with stock tires size 255-65-16......Will changing the tire size to 255-70-16 make a big difference at all...if so what specific kind of difference as far as handling, mpg, rough/smoother ride? I was wondering because my buddy has 255--70-16 tires for sale very cheap and I need new tires...Will it be worth buying them?

nope, there shouldn't be too much of a different, but it depends on the tire manufacture as well. What tires is your friend selling? Do you know the load rating? Not all tires are created equal even if they look equal.

Remember, the 65 or 70, in the tire size is the sidewall height's aspect ratio to the tread width. With a 255mm wide tire, you are looking at a sidewall height of 165.8mm (6.5") and 178.5 (7") respectively. So, the 70series tire will be about an inch taller than the 65series tire. Again, this will depend on the tire and who makes it.

You will still air them up to the same pressure - 30-33psi, depending on load. I think the door panel sticker says 30psi, but that is probably for comfort. I usually go about 10% above and if I know I am going to be carrying a heavy load in the back, I usually bump the air up to 38-40psi in the rear. Then of course, I air down when I am done.

The bigger tire will probably be a bit heavier, but shouldn't affect overall mpg or ride. Your speedo might be affected some as the revs per mile will decrease.

How used is used and how cheap is cheap?

That's a good question. 7/32 left is about 70% of new (11/32???). $125 is about where the stock tires start, and that is for just one, so getting 4 for the price of about one isnt' too bad, even with most of the tread left.

If you are concerned about if they will work or not, mount on a wheel, if you can, and do a test fit. I think you will be fine. There are guys here running tires larger than stock with little to no lift, so I don't see a problem. The worst thing to happen is they don't work and you sell the tires as-is yourself for $125-130, and try to get something else.

In the time you run these out, you can be saving for NEW tires. You should be able to get at least a year or 2 out of them.

We got about 4 out of the stock Duelers, but then again, that was only about 22k miles....
