I was thinking about running a 245/45R18 on my Q. Is anyone running this size?

Thanks Pauly

245 45's are the MONEY size on G50. I am running 245-45F and 275-40R and its amazing. I had 245-40s before, and the ride and handling increased exponentially!

Actually, 255/40-18 are right on the money in terms of size, but in either case, you need a light strong wheel at least 8" or 8.5" wide, respectively.

I Have some 18" X 8" that are on it now but the tires are to small.

Then go for the 245/45-18 in a good tire, not some cheapo Asian rubber.

You can get 100 load rating.

Stay far away from garbage like Kuhmo, Nanking, Hankook, Cooper, etc

I didn't think Cooper's were too bad anymore since they are re-labeled BFG now. Maybe not all tire models are though. Never looked at low-pro Coopers. While we're on the subject, the stock size of tire for the G50 is basically unheard of anymore in a decent tire, what size are you stockers replacing with?

Either the short 225/60-15 Exalto, or the 215/65-15 XVGT is still available.

The only near decent 235/60-15 is the so so P6.

What's your recommendation for a 255-45-17 for summer, Brian? I'm well versed in the 15 inch tire market, but I've never purchased 17''s before.

I used TireRack.com to come up with the list and sorted by price looking for 245/50-17. The choices are very limited and probably less for the 255 width. I'm replacing Goodyear Eagle ZR's which are stock on the G35 but not well liked for wet driving.

I was very happy with the last set of Yokohama AdB 245/55-16 I had on the 94Q. Quiet with great traction even in the rain. If the price was right I'd but a set in 17".

The Exalto is also available as a 215/65/15H. The Exalto is a much better tire than the michelin xgt{I have used the xgt in both h & v speed ratings}The 225/60/15 Exalto is V speed rated, and my previous set lasted 55,000 miles, even got me thru 3 Md winters with snow/ice without ever leaving me stuck.

From what I see at TR, I would say Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 which are new on my FGY33, but are great so far. Z likes them a lot also, and we run pretty much in lockstep on tires across G50 and his Y34 and my FGY33.

No PS2, and the PS is a far different tire.

The Pirelli PZero system is TR new darling, but not that much better than F1 GS-D3.

PZero Nero for AS, then PS A/S. Many like the General UHP, but they seem to be moving up from Kumhos and haven't seen any long term follow up.

Be sure to read the tire sticky in Infininti General.

Hope you have 8.5" wide wheels, but 8" might work.

As a caveat, I never ran 17" either, just 15" 16" and 18".

Any recommendations in a 245/50 or 255/50-16? My 255/50 XGT's will need replacing soon.

Were you happy with the profile on the (presumably) stock 16x7 wheel?

Do you use separate winter tires, or park it in the winter?

Accck!!! Nothing in 255/50-16 is very appealing.

I would go with the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 again in 245/50-16, even if it is a little short. The Avon Tech M550 AS is a good deal, but it achieves it's strength with added weight of 3 lbs per tire over the F1, and the mostly unavailable M500 is a better tire.

Yes more than happy. The 255 may be a tad wide for the stock wheels (16x7 ? ) but they look ok and the tire shop didn't think think there would be any problem. I would probably go with 245/50 next time just to be safe if the load rating and height are similiar.

Manix, I have a 4x4 I drive in the winter. Also. I usually put snow tires on the stock BBS wheels on the 1995. My options would include a dedicated summer/performance tire or all season.

For the money (+$50 rebate), you can't go wrong with the F1 GS-D3.

Good use of a 4x4!

Thanks for the size info. I'm a goodyear man so it will be Eagle's but I was curious what the board reccomended replacement size was. Tough to find the 65's anymore.

It's definitely Michelin for the 215/65-15.

I am not a Goodyear man at all as they make some truly horrible tires, but the F1 GS-D3 (read Szhosain's reviews) seem to be that good. Kind of like the Japanese Firestone SZ50 EP which were extroadinary.

Actually, I completely agree with you. The very top of the Goodyear line is alright by my standards though, and the reason I buy Goodyear is that I get a fatty discount on them, otherwise I'd be rolling B.F. Goodrich rubber.

I see Costco is having a Michelin sale, I'll check that out first and if it beats my Goodyear discount I'll probably go with your reccomendation. Thanks again!

TR can usually beat Costco with the discount.

BFG KDW get pretty noisey after a short while.

Thanks! And that's where the tire sticky went. I knew there was one but couldn't find it...wrong forum.

Wheels are 17x8 but have 255s on the back right now and I've been very happy with them.

With 8" wheel width, they are almost 1" in on both sides. Not too bad on a 45 profile, but too much on a 40 profile, in my opinion.

TR is pretty good on their recommended wheel widths, as they follow the manufacturer's.

And no, none of them endorse stretching. This is only for physics retards.
