Hey all,

I had purchased a set of Murano 18" wheels and am looking for tires for them. I have a 1994 Q45a (non active now) with California Custom Springs and was wondering if I can go with 245/45R18 all around. I heard there may be issues in the front with that size. Has anyone used that size in the front??

Thanks,

Chan Banh

i doubt they would rub. i ran that size on my J30 and still had plenty of room.

what is the offset on the murano wheels? are they 8.0 width?

i am running 245/45/18 on an 18X8 +40 offset on an active that is still.very close on the front, maybe 2mm clearance to 3rd link.

tkd has cali customs on his 'c' he is also running 245/45/45 all around. i know that he has 18's onff a 2002 F50, but i do not know the width and offset. when we converted his car, there was no rubbing even after lowered front.

i think ceniglomo has the murano wheels on his active (also not converted), but i blieve he's running 245/40. i'm sure he'll chime in so you can hear it first hand.

yes, the height of 245/45 is okay at 26.7" , but check the rim width and offset to know for sure.

GQ Jay,

The Murano wheels are 18x7.5 35mm offset if I am not mistaken. I ddin't know tkd was running 18s. Ceniglomo is running 245/40R18 on his Murano wheels and so was Rex I believe. I just want to do 245/45R18 all around for the purpose of easy rotations every oil change. Also any tire recommendation, I don't want to spend too much but I was hoping to try the Yokohoma Advant S4 this time around.

Thanks,

Chan

Chan- you'll get a bunch of opinion on tires....

fact: don't skimp on load/speed rating. opinion: i went with a 100Y rating-dunlop sport maxx (tires are actually z rated, but i guess the load rating is for a derated Y speed?). they are pricey at $200 per, but the peace of mind is there. car came originally with 95V tires, but the extra weight of the active (even if partially decommissioned-i assume you didn't strip *everything*)- would make me go for a minimum 96V tire.

if true on 7.5 and +35, you'll have no worries on the 245/45.

The only Yokohama to even consider on strength basis is the dB S2.

Why do some members want to compromise safety and performance so much by downgrading only part of car that is in contact with the road surface? A truly false economy.

Unfortunately, the db2 don't come in the 245/45R18 according to Tirerack.com. I wanted to go with the db2 at first since I have used them before on my Maxima. But Advant S4 are available in the 245/45R18 size. I can go with 245/40R18 in the db2 but the weight rating is on 93. At least in the advant S4 the weight rating of 96, or am I looking at the wrong numbers??

My active system was mostly removed. I even had the PS pump changed. All the lines that were easy to remove were all gutted. I think $200 per tire is what my budget is set at. I was wondering if the Dunlops were nosiy on the freeways???

thanks,

Chan

The Advan is a mid range passenger cruising tire that is not strong enough for the Q. Great for Buicks on family vacation to Wally World, but not for the demands on the front end of a G50.

Look instead at high performance summer tires, top tier manufacturers, Michelin, Goodyear, Pirelli, Bridgestone, and if need be, Dunlop. Read the TR test reports, keeping in mind they are using a car 1K lbs. lighter than a G50.

Only second tier manufacturer I would consider for economy, if not longevity, would be Avon M Tech500 (not 550). Skip the Kumhos, etc.

Your wheels are too narrow for a 40 profile 18" tire.

Are these the tires you are using?

What's wrong with the Yokohama AVS ES100? I have them on my Q (Murano wheels) and I'm very happy with them.

Rex, another design optimized for Miatas, not heavy cars llike Q45. Dennis has commented on them.

How many miles do you have?

In a 245/45/18 size they're Load Rated as 100?!?!

I have ~3k on them and like the feel/wear/traction.

Please keep in mind, I only expect to get ~12k out of tires, I don't like to keep them much past 50% worn. They get too hard.

Chan,

I'm running 245/45/18s on all 4 corners. No issues yet, I've logged over 600 miles w/CA Custom Springs. Twice I've heard some kind of creak from the driver's side front. I'll have to look to see if I'm scraping anything. But it's only happend twice, low speed while negotiating driveways.

If you want true 26" DIA you'll need to run 235/45/18 or 255/45/18.

You might want to check out these:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...ace=0

Lots of good feedback + my local tire source who's also an industry consultant also backs this one.

I am running Avon 550s on the front. I do like them, we'll see how they hold up. Good cornering and quite - makes my rears sound loud (cheap SUPER STEEL 595 Federals). The Federals aren't bad considering the price (much better than my CRAPPY & OVERPRICED HX MXM4 POS). The fact that Michellin gets away with less savy/everyday type owners replacing what came on their cars is CRIMINAL!!!! Same w/Goodyear RSAs!!!!! OEM CRAP!!!!!!!! Slippery, fast wearing, noisey overpriced CRAP!!!!!

Thanks tkd_q45.

Nice to hear you got you Active to standard done. was wondering if you replaced the PS pump. Are the Avon's quiet. I do a lot of freeway driving everyday and just don't want alot of road noise.

Thanks,

Chan

Chan-

i am humbled.

yes, i paid $183/ea after rebate for those same 100Y XL tires.

no complaints on the tires--only about 1500 miles so far.good find at $135 each--snap 'em up.

not to take too much credit, but we just did a loopback on tkd's active line (with fluid in the hose). I'm curious did you swap all your pulleys to standard width, or put the active pump pulley on a non-active ps pump?

Jay - you are too modest!!!!

PS pump is the active kind. Avons are quite. The Generals rate as being more quiet. I only have the Avons because I got lucky on ebay and found a pair w/only 1K on them for $150 shipped! If I were to buy new, I'd go with the Generals. If I had more money I'd go with Pirelli Assemetirco 255/45/18s. I've heard these are quite all throughout their wear cycle - the others - Generals/Avons will get louder w/age.

You may also want to look into adding dynamat throughout your car as the G50 has surprsingly little such noise abatement. I would do door panels and rear quarter panels to start (rap on the panel and listen for a ring instead of a thud). Thud meaning some kind of noise abatement material is present. This is what I will do when I have more time. Then in theory, tire noise should not be much of an issue, thus freeing you to go with any tire you'd like, noise independent. Again, this is just my theory. I will be trying it in the not to distant future.

I was under the impression that 235/45/18s are 26.5" and 255/45/18s are 27".Maybe you meant 255/ 40 /18 for true 26".

You guys all need to look at the spreadsheet on tires that I have posted many times before!!!

Yes, a 18x8 or 18x7.5 wheel with a 33 to 38mm offset will work fine. And, yes, a good load-rated 245/45-18 tire will work fine, with only a bit of speedo error. You can get a number of different brands, since this is a popular size! Of course, the quality and construction vary a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I am reasonably happy with my Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 for example - this can be had in a 245/45-18 size in a 100W load index and speed rating.

I agree, I wonder if he meant 255/45/17?

True but the subject matter was 18" wheels.

Anyway I would really like to see those 18x8s that come with the FX on a Q with 255/40s. That would be dope.

I've seen them on GQJay's Q in a photo and they look really good. I don't think that he's using 255/40s though!

D.

245/45. thanks for the compliment!

Jay

PS- was considering running 255/40 as the PS2's and others come in that size. talked my self out of it based on suggested 8.5 min rim width.

Warning: MOST (but not all) 245/40-18 tires have a load index too small for a Q45. The typical value seems to be a load index of 93, with one as low as 88!

Yes, there are a few exceptions, like the Avon Tech M500 and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (but not the stock Pilot Sport or Pilot Sport A/S though) at 97, etc.

Please use 245/45-18 or 255/40-18 for safer results. Far more of a selection with the correct load index.

Indeed... but, I've been driving on my unsafe tires for 5 months and haven't had trouble. With that said... I have winter tires/wheels going on my car in the next month or so. And, I will likely switch to 255/40 in the spring.
