I am not a fan of the black shiney tire, but I don't like the brown dull look either. Anybody have any special tricks for just keeping them nice and new and black looking?

This is an interesting topic. I recall back 20 years ago in school we learned about the compound of the tires and I remember they adding carbon black to protect from UV rays ( cracking ) I think that is one of the reason you can't get all kind of colored tires. There is another issue the the air( ozone). It kills the tires also but they ended up using wax in the tires. However the wax more you are using your tire the more comes out like squizing the lime. LOL

Try to stay away from silicone based anything. Rubber and silicone is not a good combo. It is actually disolving the wax in the tires. That is the main reason your tires turn brown.

Now remind you this is a 20 years old info without any update. Could be well out of date and not useful at all.

After re reading my answer this probably will give you nothing useful maybe more confusion. LOL sorry

Anybody have any newer info on the tires?

Only thing you can do to have a new looking tire all the time is use your car as it ment to be and than you have to replace your tires like me once a year. LOL Than you won't have issue with compound desolving and cracking and turn brown. :chuckle:

Zo....you are a hoot!

I had a guy tell me once to put brake fluid on them. Never had the nerve to try it.

My last set I had on Rambo I had to get rid of. They were 9 years old, but only had about 3k miles on them. I was afraid of them. Especially since the few miles he does get are pretty tough miles. :naughty:

I use armor-all wipes on mine. Works great and lasts at least a week. Not a fan of gels as they spray off.

I just use good ol' fashioned armor all these days. As mentioned above it shines nice without looking too oily. I did try transmission (not brake) fluid years ago when I was told that's what some dealerships use on their showroom cars. It did shine like crazy but was a little too wet for my taste and is difficult to work with. I've found anything that comes in a spray can or bottle just flings off all over the car if you don't let it dry for like an hour before driving. So after 20 years of shining tires, I've come full circle. I started with armor all in high school, probably tried two dozen other types of tire shine since, and am now back where I began.

I was told by a Nissan parts manager not to put dressing on my tires, but if I did I needed to continue because the tires will dry rot faster once you stop than if you hadn't to begin with.
Don't know if there is any truth to this, but he has been right on other recommendations.

Personally, I've never seen (or heard from a reliable first-hand source) about any type of popular tire dressing causing damage to tires. It all may be a non-issue depending on what kind of tires you're running.. I wouldn't imagine that pouring battery acid on my Bridgestone RE050A's could destroy them any faster than they are already wearing out on their own.

More shine by "Stoner". They also have invisible glass and trim shine.

As long as it's not motor oil...should be fine.

Oil deteriorates rubber, rubber loves brake fluid.

I'm sure baby oil is not the best for it either but what is the lifespan of tires on a G37, 1.5-2 years maximum?

Exactly. Your tires will wear out before anything else happens to them.

Interesting topic...because I was reading the G37 manual and it said NOT to put "tire dressing" on the tires because it reacts with a compound in the tires and causes some kind of gum that come off the tires onto the paint and damages the paint. Anybody have any experience with this?

I've not run across that in my owner's manual, but I can say that the new car prep at Pearson Infiniti appears to involve a floor mop and a bucket full of the stuff....
