I posted last week regarding an issue I'm having with my 03' M45 tire sensor. I had one sensor replaced due to a broken valve stem. The tire shop has the device that resets the tire sensor however they can't seem to get it to work on my car. Apparently it reads what the PSI is for each tire, however it will not show up on my computer. I have driven the car 500 miles since the new sensor was installed and still the PSI will not show up on the computer. Any ideas other than taking it to dealer and spending $40.00???

The low tire sensor will come on after 10 minutes of driving and stays on until I shut the car off. However, my issue is the fact that the computer screen does not show the PSI on any of the tires, but rather **. The low tire sensor comes on even though my tires aren't low. The tire guy said that his reset device registered the PSI's on all 4 tires, however the cars computer will not reset. They have tried 3 seperate times, and either they don't know what they are doing, highly likely, or there's some magic trick that only the dealer can do????

If you are under warranty there should not be a charge?

BTW, when it was time to replace my tires last February, I decided to purchase them from the dealer to prevent the very issue you are now having. I found the dealer price was competitive with independent shops

The dealer replaced two so far on my vehicle both under warranty.

I keep my tires at 35 psi when cold.

If the pressure on all 4 tires is above 35 psi and you've driven 500 miles then you have a defective sensor

you have a problem with the actual monitoring system, it has nothing to do with the PSI, somebody somewhere messed up the programing.

The dealer told me it was $40.00 to "reset" the sensor on the tires. What I don't get is that I had ZERO problems with the tires until I had them rotated and the broken valve stem that followed. I asked the tire guy today if it could be a bad sensor, but since the air pressure showed up on his device as being at the proper PSI he didn't think that was the issue. What I'm most upset about is that I went in for an a routine "free" issue, and I've wasted time and energy trying to get something fixed that worked perfectly well beforehand. So I guess what you are all saying is that it could be a few things, and either way I'm going to have to go to the dealer and fork out money???? Also, my car is an 03' and therefore no warranty.

TPMS' is so so so worthless.

More then likely the sensor does need to be reset, I don't know why it'd be $40 though. Try taking your car to a tire shop who deals with TPMS sensors. More then likely they will have the tool to reset your light, if the sensor is the problem.

It's not the light on my dash that is the issue, it's the fact that the PSI levels will not show up on my dash computer. The computer just shows ** PSI, ** PSI, etc. for all 4 tires. The tire shop guy had the device that is suppose to reset the tires, however for some reason it did not. someone posted that it might be a problem with something else, bad tire monitor(?) I guess the dealer charges $40 for the using the same device the tire guy has to reset the onboard computer. Perhaps his device is not Infinity specific, therefore it wouldn't reset the sensors/computer??????

Most Nissan/Infiniti vehicles use the BCM to control the TPMS system and if the system is not activated it will not search for new sensor frequencies. There is a factory wireless activation tool to reset monitors which requires a Consult to awake new sensors.

TPMS is pretty worthless, I cannot tell you how many people don't even know what the light means and come in screaming that they had an oil change done a month ago and today their something is beeping at them, WTF read the owners manual.

Federal mandates have made it law that everyone has them sometime in the near future.

If the car is under warranty they should not charge for something like that. It sounds like they are trying to detour people from coming in and having their tires adjusted for free.

Thanks for the information. I'm guessing the dealer wants $40.00 for their time and trouble since I didn't purchase the tires from them. I will call around for a different tire shop though. I don't really mind the low air light coming on, but what I don't like is the fact that my computer no longer shows how much weight each of my tires has in it (and since I had a flat tire the other day if it hadn't worked that would have been very bad!!!). I've gotten very use to it working, and now that it doesn't it just irritates me!!! I just don't understand why this has become such an ordeal from a simple tire rotation!!!

In the long run $40 is much cheaper than a new tire. Just food for thought. You may want to suck it up and have it done right and be done with it. If you still have a warranty you may be able to complain your way out of the standard charge.
