I had my tires rotated at the dealer last week as part of regular maintenance.

Ever since I've been getting the tire pressure light; when I check the actual tire pressure using a gauge, the pressure is fine.

However, when I check the pressure using the computer, I simply get a ** reading, this despite my having driven the car over 100 miles since I got the rotation.

For good measure, I even drove the car on the highway for about half an hour today at 70mph, since I read that should reset the sensor - but no luck. I just ended up burning gas for no reason.

Any suggestions on what to do? I suspect the dealer didn't reset the sensor, or maybe the technician was peeved that I didn't buy one of their super packages of needless stuff.

I had the same issue happen to me, took the car in for a oil etc and had the tires road force balanced. A few days after the service the tpms warning light on the dash was on and one wheel was reporting ** pressure. The other three wheels are fine.
I am sure it is a bad sensor and not the systems since three other wheels are reporting fine.
I was told that is the warning light in your dash flashes when you start the car, and then stays on that is bad tpms (not sure if that means the one in the wheel on the sensors located in the wheel well)
A bad tire pressure would be indicated by the the warning light in you dash continuing to flash.
The nice thing about these cars is that the sensors reset themselves. I know this to be a fact because I have two sets of wheels, one for summer and one for winter. Both sets have tpms installed in the wheels. I change over the wheels myself. Right after the swap, my tpms light in the dash does not come on, but the screen reports that all 4 tires are **.
Within one day of the swap, all the stars align and the tires report in and all is good.
So in my case I have one bad sensor – I just happen to have an extra set that I bought this fall for $100, if I need to I will replace the bad sensor at the end of the winter (next time I swap the wheels).
Good luck

I think the dealer can rest them for about 40 buck when I had My new rims at the Town Far Tire they used some kind of scanner to see if the sensors were active but he also stated that they should reset on there on so i drove a few miles and all four are reporting fine and that was a year ago If they dont come back you may need to have them reset

I have the same problem. The light comes on and the console gives me *.* on all four wheels. Pressure is fine when I do a manual check. I am disgusted and refuse to pay Infiniti or anyone to fix whatever is wrong. Only difference is mine happens in cold weather and your's did it after a tire rotation. I am going back to old school and checking the pressures myself and just eye balling the tires. I didn't need a TPMS in the 60's-80's and if this is the best Infiniti can do its the last one I buy. Too much electronic stuff in my OP on these cars.

Me too, i have a manual gauge i use also, the dealer wanted to charge me for the reset too, try bringing it in during an oil change and ask the guy to look at it, they may be cool enough to reset it. mine occured after a new set of tires and they rebuilt the tpms seals and tested the sensors with a bartech scanner but said only dealer can reset the receivers via consult.

Hey guys - did anyone ever figure this out ? I have the same problem on my 2004 Q45... BUT... mine happens after driving for 30min or so. The tire pressures are displayed correctly when I first start driving but after a while it shows ** on all 4 wheels and the icon is displayed on the dash showing a problem.

I've already replaced 1 sensor and paid $80 at the dealer to have the TPMS system re-programmed. Any ideas ?

Thanks very much !

One of mine did this last winter and was fine all summer. One of mine is doing this again this winter. This is on a 2006 M45. I never got any sort of resolution, but I would guess that it's wet or the internal battery terminals are corroded or something. However, that's because it's just one. Since you have 4, that seems less likely. Did they all 4 start doing it at the same time? Do you keep the air pressure pretty consistent between tires? I'm wondering if lower pressures could cause this as the sensors (or their batteries) age. Doesn't really make sense, but if you add air to all 4 tires and the problem goes away, I'll certainly be adding to my one (it is the lowest of the 4).

Mine show the pressure just fine ..about 34lbs each (I manually check them also since I did have the 1 bad sensor replaced). But like I said, after driving for 20-30 minutes, the monitor shows "**" for all 4 tires and I can then see the TPS light on the cluster. Is there some sort of TPMS receiver or something that goes bad ?
It really is a nice feature to have ... but a real PAIN to have to constantly see the light come on.

Could it actually be that once the tires heat up after driving that causes the sensors to stop working ? This really makes no sense to me - I'm almost to the point of
yanking them out...

Thanks !

The light will come on if you yank them out too. Unfortunately, I have no idea what to tell you. I'm experiencing the same thing, but only with one, and only when it's cold outside (but the tire starts at 29PSI).

Right - but at least I would know ... and also the light would be on from the beginning and not change after 20-30 minutes... Just seems like a pain to actually
PAY money to have these removed. I guess I will probably just live with this goofy problem - hard to believe no one else has had this exact same issue before !

I aired up my tires after I typed that one was 29. It wasn't 29, all four of my sensors are a couple pounds lower than the tire pressure. I had the one do that again today even though it wasn't cold. Unfortunately I don't know what to tell you (wish I did, would mean my problem was fixed). However, I can speculate that the light would not come on immediately even if you removed the sensors, as it would try to detect them before coming on. IOW, remove the sensors and the light will stay off until you drive over 25 mph for over 10 minutes straight or whatever, however, at least as it stands you can see the pressures shortly after you start driving before the light comes on.

Do you guys think disconnecting the battery would cause a computer TPMS reset went the battery was connected? I usually try crap like this on my home computer and it usually works - unfortunately are cars have become computers on wheels.

Anyone try the battery disconnect-connect?

I have tried that about 3-4 weeks ago without any success. The same problem still exists today with the sensors. Does anyone know if there is a TPMS receiver (computer) that could be going or is bad ? I'll see if I can find anything on the manuals...

For any Nissan owner with TPMS, and a need to reset the TPMS light, a couple individuals have posted a procedure describing how to put the TPMS system in "Learn Mode" by using a short piece of wire or a tool that can be found described on the web and sold at Amazon or many other retailers under the name "OTC-3831", or "OTC 3831" or "KTI 71985" or "KTI 71981". I just want to confirm that I purchased the tool "OTC 3831" on Amazon for $ 21.00, it is a little trigger like device with a male plug which matches Nissan' TPMS test connector under your dash (in different places on different models), on my 2007 Versa Hatchback it was just above my hood release and gas door release, and an allegator clip (providing a ground), plus a "jumper" or converter which I needed to use since my Versa's TPMS test connector was a male vs. femail connector. But, it worked perfectly as described!! I actually was successfull in getting the BCM to relearn and register all sensors including one that had recently been replaced by Sears when I purchased new tires and they did not know how to do the reset. My warning light had been blinking for a minute and then going solid (an "error" or system problem indication) with each start-up, so I set my front left tire to 36 psi, the front right to 33, the right rear to 30 and left rear to 27, connected the reset tool, clicked it 5 times within the specified 10 second window, and the TPMS light began to blink slowly indicating it was now in "relearn mode". I then disconnect the allegtor clamp, started my car and drove it for about 2 & 1/2 to 3 miles at 30-40 mph, and the light finally went out!! There is actaully a Technical Service Bullitin that I found on the Web that was issues in August 2007 announcing the creation of this handy little reset tool, complete with pictures and instructions, though my TPMS connector was in a different locations.

I forget the actual search string I used to find the Technical service bulletin I referenced, but a search on the following should get it for you "TIPS Technical Service Bulletin #2007-002"

Has anyone tried using the OTC3831 tool on a G37
I contacted OTC and they said I need:

You would need a scan tool such as the OTC Genisys 3874 to put the vehicle into a learn mode and then also a TPMS activation tool such as the 3834 to perform the reset on this or any newer Asian vehicle.

OTC3831 only works on :
2003-2006 350Z
2005-2006 Armada
2003-2006 Frontier
2003-2006 Murano
2003-2006 Pathfinder
2004-2006 Quest
2004-2006 Titan
2003-2006 Xterra

Thanks
