Hello,

My M37S with 38K miles needs new tires. What do you guys recommend? I'm looking to keep with the sporty feel, although I would prefer a quieter tire. The OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE050's are VERY loud at 80mph. Also they seem to follow every groove in the road when braking.

I ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport as 1) I've heard great things about this tire, 2) They have the same ZR rating, 3) Same "Max Performance Summer" category (living in AZ, I don't need a winter or all-season tire). When I called to order them at Costco, the guy was surprised I wanted such a "high performance" tire for my Infiniti, stating he's only installed these on Porches, Corvettes, etc.

Am I shopping the wrong category here then? Or do others put "high performance" tires on their Infinities? This is the same tire used on many super cars as well, so maybe I'm in the wrong category here.

Before I install these, what do others recommend?

Thanks!

Do you order the all seasons or the summer regular tires. I driven in them both , the all season seem quieter. And where do you live in Arizona. I'm in Mesa.

I have an M 56 with the all seasons on. And in 56 with the summer tires on. If you want to test drive them let me know

There are two different versions of the PSS?

These are what I got http://tires2.costco.com/product.aspx?I ... ea13cb7f43

Best price I found was Costco.

I have always had Michelin pilot super sports until my last tire change. They are wonderful tires, grip like a cat on a carpet pole, and ride as well when worn down as they did when new. As for installing high performance tires, I only have the 35HR engine and I notice a big difference in turning, stability, high speed handling, wet traction, and ride. I switched to the Hankook Ventus S1noble2 tires (255/40/19) and they come as close to Michelin as is possible. The Ventus are classified as Ultra high performance A/S. No disappointment at all. However, no idea yet if that performance will last over the miles like the Michelin do.
In general, the touring tires will be quieter than high performance tires and have less grip - though it isn't clear if that "less grip" affects normal driving or if it just exists at the test track.
The HP tires have stiffer sidewalls, a different rubber formula, and result in harsher ride over bumps compared to grand touring, etc. However, on a nice, level motorway, the Ventus and the Michelin provide a ride like a magic carpet, but you still feel a definite connection to the road.

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport is an outstanding tire - just do not use them in snow or even in near-freezing conditions! I am on my second set on my 2003 M45 and also put them on my wife's 2011 Acura TSX a short while back.

On her car, it completed cured a serious darting problem she had with the previous tires.

The Costco guy does not know what he is talking about. :yesnod

What's the difference between the Pilot SUPER Sport and the Pilot Sport? It seems everywhere I look the SUPER is better, but for some odd reason the Pilot Sport costs more...

Take a look at TireRack if you haven't already and their 'scores'...this will tell you which tire is better. I only buy tires from them and only based on their scores and I have yet to be disappointed.

I second Ilya's recommendation. Tire Rack is the ONLY place I use to search for tires. They have great information / videos / comparisons and you can ring them with questions. They always know the answer. You don't have to buy from them, but I always do. They ship direct to your local tire shop in 2-3 days and usually include road hazard protection for free.
If you want Michelins, these are your choices for the 202 M37s (245/40/20)

Summer: Pilot Super Sport (max performace)
Pilot Primacy (grand touring)

All Season: Pilot Sport A/S 3 (ultra high performance)
Primacy MXM4 (grand touring)

Winter: Alpin PA4 (winter & snow)
X-ICE X13 (studless ice & snow)

The Super Sport A/S 1 was an all-season tire (A/S = all season) and is not a current model. It is no longer made.

Thanks for all the info! I'm going to stick with my order of the PS2s in 245/40/20. Costco still had a better price than Discount Tire or Tirerack. I was also considering upsizing to 255, but IDK...probably best to stick to OEM size.

Wow. The michelin Pilot super sport has some impressive specs on tirerack! Too bad they don't come in my size (245/50-18).

Goodyear TripleTred no longer comes in my size either, but they were great tires.
