I know theres another topic, but im just looking for good tires for value that will handle hard driving well. I've got P215/60R16 and Infiniti says i should use All-season high performance radial, H-rated.

So, whats my best bet?

I think what your looking for is fine, all season high performance, and Id go maybe up a little on the speed rating

Also check a 225-60-16 size, those are really easy to find and a great selection....

What kind of driving do you do, do you like to go above 100mph and need good handling tires as well?

Im unfamiliar with the weather in NC, do you get snow and stuff like that....

It snows about 3 times a winter. It usually goes from torrential rain to blistering heat in a week's span. It sucks.

I dont usually go that fast, but I take turns without as much brakes as most people use, but good handling is my main concern.

thanks for the help.

I have just put my first set of 215/65/15 Falken 512 series on my car yesterday. So far I really like them....good and sticky with a stiff sidewall and very nice aqua tread design yet quiet at 110mph as I was testing them out tonight. I have to get use to them and build up my confidence as they handle a bit differently than my last tires, but so far they corner nicely and they are cheap too....$256 (including tax) for all 4 mounted & balanced with disposal fees. I did however have to go to the "Little Haiti" area of Miami where no white man like me goes...but hey, I could not pass up a deal like that and I was riding on my spare as a wore my tires down to the cords.

Yeah,.. Someone else form Carolina!!!! Makes me happy as a terd going on a water ride!!! Tire Rack has some Pirelli P4000 Super Touring (Standard Touring All-Season) Size:215/65-15 at a clearance price of 55$ each. I'me trying to decide myself since I need Two. Think I'll go Pirelli unless I here any horror stories..

Love Carolina and the roads here. I'm at the Beach end of the states and the boys in Blue are too. They love to sit and wait. I've never seen so many Camero state troopers in all my life. Ever get pulled for 37 in a 35? Nice to see another Carolina guy here.

So true. Tuesday on my way to school, a girl got stopped for going 42 in a 35. No ticket, no warning, but the cop blocked both lanes of the road off to stop her.

I would stay H or above on speed rating as these are suited to you "T" package.

I have Bridgestone Potenza on mine and they are "V" rated. I am seeing considerable wear on these after only about 20k miles.

I have had experience with Goodyear RSAs and they wore better than these Potenzas. Also GForce KDWS (BF Goodrich) did well for me in a "V" rated tire. These were very good on wet and fair in snow.

speed rating for Pirelli P4000 Super Touring (Standard Touring All-Season) Size:215/65-15 is V or VR if you get real technical. You Can get a new W rated tire as well.

After some reasearch I've found the Pirelli's can last for a good 30K before you can really notice a difference. A couple guys are saying the use them for everday driving and they're fine and are lasting as expected. Contridicting story about rainy weather however. I'll think I will try them out. $55 is worth it to me.

How do these look?http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes - P400s

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes - Yokohama Avids

But what is a TR speed rating? T is 118, R is 105, is tr somewhere in the middle or something?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...1=yes - Kumhos for $46 a piece. Did better than both of the others in the tests, looks good to me.

I had Yokohama on my Rx7...good tire. Again, I would not buy less than an H rated tire for your I-30T. I would not consider less than that rating in my opinion.

I'm not an expert on tires, nor do I know a whole lot at all. If i currently have P215/60R16 s, would it be all right to put on Size: 215/55HR16 s? I dont know how much difference the sidewall height would make.

Thanks for your help, guys.

Glad you asked. There's simple math involved with figuring a tire's Overall Diameter, but I'll skip that and give you the sizes.

You've got 215/60-16 which, by the numbers is 26.16" tall (inflated but not installed with the vehicle's weight on it, aka 'static' measurement)

the 215/55-16 comes to 25.31" OD, by the conversion numbers.

To keep gearing, speedo, odometer and abs performing as OEM, you need to keep the tire's OD as close as possible to original equipment.

Keep in mind that each tire manufcturer builds to a different size spec. They're close, but if you measure two tires that are the same size from two different manufacturers, you'll see that section width(from outer-most part of sidewall bulge, on a manufacturer specified width rim), tread width, and sometimes the OD will be different.... ..it's as if they're all using a different sized tape measure..

So with all that jargon and mumbo jumbo to consider, the general rule of thumb is to keep the OD as close to OEM as possible.

the 215/55-16 is shorter. Maybe :bowdown Q45tech can figure the actual percentage of change from OEM.

Well I'm pretty slow, apparently. I have 55s on right now.

So, Kumho Ecsta HP4 716s, Here I Come.

Now, can someone tell me the difference between H and HR?

Thats my final question, hopefully others can learn where I was so unlearned.

An H rated tire is for sustained speeds up to 129mph. V will take you to 149 and Z to 149 plus. Bear in mind that these are not only speed ratings but will let you access the total tire package as far as sidewall tolerence etc. I have never heard of an "HR". Maybe this just means H Rated.

I30t. I am VERY sure that the HR and H are the same...

If youll notice, the HR speed rating is in the size, IE 225-60HR-15... The R simply stands for RADIAL...

Otherwise, like on my tires, it has the size (225-60r-15) and the load rating (96H).

I hope this helps

I have some info about the HR designation. This from the '03-04 Toyo Tires Fitment Guide, pg 7: P205/60HR15 (P= passenger, H=speed rating, R=radial)

P205/60R15 90H (P=passenger, R=radial, 90=load index, H=speed rating)

The "90H" is called the Service Description. It includes the Load Index number, and the speed rating.

Tires with the service description following the size markings, are more common than the P205/60HR-15 style.

The P205/60HR-15 does not clearly indicate the tire's load index and speed rating, and becomes(as this thread shows) a little confusing.

For those interested...tire speed rating chart:http://www.tiresafety.com/size...a.htm

Thanks a lot guys. Tire Rack's description was misleading me..

Quote »Size: 215/55HR16 BlackwallHR Speed Rated[/quote]I'm going to look around, there's a place nearby that does price matching, so hopefully I can get them cheap and not pay shipping.

Thanks again.
