Guys,

Found a nail today after 6 years :) and found out it will cost me over $1000 in the form of new tires.

What do you guys recommend ... I explored 3 options today:

1. OEM Bridgestone Potenza
2. Conti Extre DWS
3. Hankook V12 EVO

I will appreciate if you guys can share experiences. I am in California and dont drive HW much with near 7K miles per year.

I just purchased the Conti DWS for my 2008 M35x. Before installing them on the M, I bought a set for my G35 to triy it out. For me, the DWS is much better suited to the character of the M; they are smooth, quiet and my wife really likes the way they handle. On the G they do not feel as sporty as what I wanted but the reduced noise is appreciated by everybody else in the car.

The M had Hankooks on it for the previous 30k miles. We did not find them to be refined in terms of noise, handling and ride. Not to bash them too much but they are a Korean tire. I bought an Infiniti instead of a Genesis for a reason and felt that was apparent in the tires as well.

I have seen people leaning towards ContiExtreme DWS on this alias. I live around San Francisco and no snow here. What about the ContiExtreme DW tires. Are they any different? any experiences or comparisons?

Guys, narrowed it down to:

1. Michelin Super Sport
2. Conti Extreme DW
3. Michelin PS2

Need to buy today. Please share. I would like to have low noise this time. The OEM ones are loud!!!

The Tirerack survey likes the Michelin better than the Conti. But they are more expensive-but better apparently than the Conti-apparently... I've had x2 sets of the Conti's on my machine, the old ExtremeContacts and now the DWS. I really like them-altho they don't appear to be really high mileage tires. Quiet they are though, as you wish. The DW, I don't know. But I would expect it to be even quieter than the quiet DWS-it needs less aggressive tread not having the snow driving rating/more friction (noise) grabbing design.

I just bought a set of Conti's for by 2004. Very happy with the ride and rain performance. I am in snow country so their performance in winter is yet to be seen. Like you, I put little mileage on my M so wear factor was not an issue. They do have a low mileage wear issue, but with the mileage we run I would not sweat that. They have wear bars on them that will tell you when they are shot for certain conditions. So far I like them. These are my first replacements of the factory tires and Blizzacks. Being in CA and not having to worry about snow I might have choosen another brand, but then again, low mileage......they will last awhile. I am giving mine 3-4 years.

Just coming back from the shop and with these 2 in mind.

Michelin Super Sport: 1200+Tax
Conti DW ExCon: 900$+tax

Tirerack does show very high rating for the Michelin's above and Cont DW are not too far with $300 cheaper. Out of these 2 which one is quieter guys?
Any other comparison is appreciated. I dont have any bias except noise if the difference is significant between the two i will go with the low noise ones.

If it's a simple nail hole, a $2 patch with fix it. Save the grand for Vegas.

So far I have found the Conti's slightly less noisy than the factory sport tires. The ride is a little softer, but these cars ride hard anyway and I like that. Price sounds about right. I paid $1,100 for 4, including mounting, balancing etc. I also had them dispose of 8 tires, my 4 original sport tires and 4 Blizzaks, so I got charged an environmental disposal fee. So far I am pleased with the Conti's. I also looked at Tirerack and could not find another tire that suited me. I am happy with the Conti's so far, but winter snow will tell me how happy I am with them overall.

Just had a set of Conti EC DWS install on my 06 M35X. I have 59,600 on the car. I will be leaving CT and Heading for GA to live on June 15th. I'll give you an assessment of overall performance when I get to GA. Everyone I know that has installed these as replacement tires on M's and BMW 5's like the overall performance.

I needed tires last year and after a lot of research went with Kumho. Paid about $735 for 4. With a 40k treadwear warranty which no one else was offering on a 19" wheel. Tires have been great. Nice and quiet, stick like glue. Huge upgrade from OEMs. I don't drive much either but oems were done after 22k, about 4 years worth for me but that's still absurd imo. Looked at all other options as I really didn't want a Korean tire on my baby but I'm thrilled at my choice. Saved 300-500 bucks over competition and got great handling, smooth riding, quiet tires that are also outstanding in our FL storms.

I have near 50K on my OEM bridgestones in near 6 years. The rear ones has still 10K in them - I did not do rotation last 15K so my front were all gone - I can see the threads on them.
I am going with Michelin Super Sports - dont want to downgrade - i think vs OEM bridgestones these are far better. I am expecting at least another 50K if I keep the rotation - balance and alignment on time.
Putting them on Tuesday.
ContiExCo DW could have saved me $300 but they were taking long time to come - plus personally I wanted to experience the Michelin's. I have seen excellent reviews for the Super Sports for all handing in dry wet, thread wear, braking, noise etc.
Will get back Tuesday evening :)

I think you would be good with the following:

conti's dw
michelin primacy MXM4
hankook v12

based on your driving habits, the investment you apply today should last you for some time...

I've driven on many tire brands(Toyo T1R's, Vrdesteins, mich ps2, contis) -- currently riding on hankook v12's and pleased with them...the ride comfort is there, plus the performance...I have a staggard set up so I have a lot of tire on the road...

...the tires I would not buy again would be Yokahama's -- they wear too fast...

good luck....

CPJ LB Thanks a lot.

Hankook v12 are very nice looking tires + cheaper. Let us know when you have an estimate of the tire thread wear vs mileage on them. Good to know.

I was wondering which model of Kumho you're running. Last month I dipped into a fatty Seattle pothole and ended paying almost $375 for a replacement Michelen-sp tire at Discont Tire! So needless to say, im not going to do that again. I've run Kumho's on my Honda in the past but...

Thanks everyone. Finally, yesterday had the Michelin Super Sports installed. Very very quiet and I am very satisfied. A little expensive than the other options but you can see the difference in the tire quality very obviously.
Time will tell on the threadbare but I am expecting to put 50K based on my experience with the OEMs that lasted 46K.

Like I mentioned that I didn't do rotation last 20K miles - the rears were still pretty decent and I decided to put them in the trunk with me when leaving the shop :)

Rotation every 5K miles - dont miss it!!!

I put a set of PilotSport 2's on my M35 last fall since I got a smoking good deal on them and love these tires. Quiet, grip very well and have all but eliminated the trammeling. This was the previous generation Michelin so I can only imagine the SS would improve on them and last longer too.

The word is "tramlining." Nice to squash it, huh!
