I just purchase some rims, they are 17x7 40 offset. They came Wrapped in 205/40 17 Nitto NT555 Z rated tires. These are gonna be placed on my 1997 240sx SE. Now, What im wondering is should I use these tires, is the size and ratios fine for a 240sx?? If not, why not?

if they mount on the car and can spin freely without touching the brakes or anything else ... even with full weight on the car then they are fine. 240's came with 205 width tires stock so there will be no problems there

You're gonna be driving a lot slower than what the speedo will read. The tires you got have a too low aspect ratio for the tire width. It'll be good for acceleration, but expect your top speed/gas mileage to suffer.

that's a tire size calculator. Try it out over stock.

by how much would my speedo be off by? "suffering at tops speeds", do you mean perfomance wise or handling? The car is just a daily driver for now, so Im not to worried about perfomance gains and such.

???? Sometimes I wonder how old some people on this board are.. NJ - Don't listen to crzycav! Your speedo is barely going to be off, like 1-2.5 at most (slower, probably a good thing). Nothing to worry about. Say you're going from a 15" wheel with a 55 side wall that's pretty damned close to a 17 with a 40 side wall both using a 205.. Bad tire pressures alone can throw your speedo. Think about it as the whole wheel tire combo. As far as accelration goes you won't notice a damn thing, (maybe some 'deccelration' if anything) except a firmer ride unless you're new rims weigh less then your stockies.

He's right. I'm sorry, I thought this was on the stock 15" rims... :(

..If you had those tire specs on a 15 in. rim, you would be driving 53 mph when the speedo reads 60... that's what i meant. :(
