I FIRMLY disagree with the sites discussion of overinflation since scientific testing has proved that the higher the inflation above even 35 psi the progressive increase in hydroplane start speed due to just that the decrease in contact patch area.

Friction is a function of the weight per square inch of tread so by reducing the square inches you increase the wet/snow/ice traction.

Never trust every thing posted on web always read and study the science!

But doesn't the vehicle weight affect contact patch size?If so, wouldn't that mitigate your figures?

Anyway, my primary reason for posting the article was the chalk line trick as pointed out, which would eliminate any reduction in contact patch size if used.
