Just looked at the tire pressure the other day on my new Rogue S and noticed that whoever prepped the car at the dealer set it to approximately 37 psi (higher than the recommended pressure of 33 psi). I'm wondering what others have their tire pressures at. Should I keep the tire pressure this high?

Thanks

It never hurts to use the factory recommended pressure.

That being said, I personally prefer to run slightly higher, based on weight distribution. On my car, I'm running 33 rear right, 34 rear left, 35 front right and 36 front left. 2 PSI extra on the front due to the front being heavier, and 1PSI extra on the left due to...me. A little bit of extra air will help to slightly improve fuel efficiency/reduce rolling resistance, and stabilizes the tire a little better on the rim. Going too far over will result in uneven tire wear (middle will wear faster compared to the sides) and ride will get too stiff.

Eddnog, very interesting that you run different pressures on the left & right side. I dare not ask how much you weigh, but unless it's alot you should not need to run different pressures.

You can change the weight distribution slightly by varying ride height. Normally it's done via height adjustable suspension like race cars use but you can make smaller changes by varying air pressure. The reason for this is to equalize handling characteristics between left and right hand turns. Or in the case of NASCAR, bias the handling for one particular turn.

I am split on the debate of running very high pressures to promote fuel economy. The stock Conti's are known for wearing quickly and I am already starting to notice. I would hate to ruin a set of tires by overinflating. For those wanting to play with tire pressures, stay close to the recommended 33psi. If you increase it more, then buy a tire depth gauge and keep track of your tire wear. Also, rotate your tires frequently (3000-5000mi ?)to equalize wear.

I actually only weigh 170 lb., but I do not think that manufacturers balance out production cars to offset the weight of the steering equipment being on a particular side, plus the exhaust in the case of the Rogue, all on the left. 1 PSI isn't a significant difference, so I figure it's okay.

I'll take a look at my wear when I go down to use the car today, as I have have nearly 12,000 miles on it since November, and am curious as to how much wear they show after this much mileage. Thanks for mentioning the wear rate on these.
