Hey everyone I know this has probably been asked before but I just can't seem to find the answer anywhere in this forum. I just put on a new set of wheels and the tire pressure sensor light is now illuminated. Now I know that the new wheels don't have a sensor so I'm just wondering what everyone else did. Did you buy new sensors and have them installed on the aftermarket wheels (is this expensive?) or did you just disconnect the sensor. This is my first post so any information would be great!

Hmm... is there a way to disconnect the sensor? With my wheels I just never bothered getting sensors or switching them over... I know when I have low pressure because I can either feel it or I know when I check the tires every weekend.

The light is kind of annoying, I wonder if the sensor/car side can be unplugged or disabled. I'm sure the dealer could disable it with Consult III?

The tire place charged me 20 bucks to put my sensor from me stock wheel into my new ones. It only took them a few minutes.

If you aren't keeping the stock wheels, I'd probably have the sensors switched over to the new ones. But if you're keeping the stock wheels for winter use, you won't likely want to buy a second set - they are something like $60 (CDN) each!

With my winter wheels, I just live with the little light on in the gauge cluster - it doesn't bother me at all and I didn't even notice it after a few days. Besides, TPMS is no substitute for regular pressure checks.

The dealer cannot disable the system because it is a federal law in the USA to have TPMS.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I will probably look around for a cheap set of used ones or just live with the light on.

But I'm in Canada... Where weed is "meh" for the cops and health care is somewhat free :P.

Yeah, there is probably a law like that here too, ah well.

Here in Canada, TPMS is not yet legislated, but the dealer cannot disable the system (well, no way that my dealer is aware of). You need to live with that little picture of a tire on your dash. I lived with it all winter - as I've said before, after a few days I didn't even notice it. In fact, when I put my summer rims back on a couple of weeks ago, I quickly stopped noticing that the little light was gone.

Agreed! I do the same every winter. I actually went to Saskatoon today and my light was on. It was fine last night but since I was used to it all winter I didn't notice it until I picked up some coffee. Luckily I had a tire pressure gauge in my glove box and took the pressure. Everything was good, it was somehow -5 in April .

I'm the opposite. I left my sensors in the stock wheels for the winter, because I find there is less chances in the freezing cold weather to go out and manually check the tire pressures with a tire pressure gauge than there are in the warmer months. If even just a little bit of water or snow gets in the valve then freezes, it could result in a slow leak and much more headaches. I mean I still do check during the winter, it's just less often and that's when the TPMS will actually help me and be more useful.

I also don't notice the light anymore now that I know my summer wheels are on. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Also, I have seen that some guys say to put a small piece of electrical or black tape over the icon so that they wouldn't see it anymore. I think that would drive me more nuts than the light itself, but to each is own.

I have a new set of TPMS sensors on my aftermarket wheels and sensors on the stocks. Just put the aftermarket wheels on, and i assumed the new sensors would have to be resynced at the dealership...but the dash light hasnt turned on. Does anyone know if the new set of TMPS resync's itself?

Fist thing I asked when i got my new wheels is how much to swap the sensors. Dealer said they can only do 18's so I to go to Tire Express and they charged me 25 dollars a tire to have it removed from my car, sensor swapped, rotated and balanced the new wheels onto my car. 100 bucks even after all 4 tires with original sensors in perfect working condition.

+1 tpms is another way for dealers to rip off customers.
