on the side of the door panel it says 33psi but on the tire itself on the wall it says max fill 44psi. I wanted to know if I could fill it up to 40psi with no damage of the tire. I am looking for a more smooth and firm ride.

I used to fill my sentra tires to 44psi.
No ill effects, just harder ride.
Haven't bumped up versa psi yet.
Still at 34/35ish.
Thanks for reminder!

I keep it at 35...tried 40 but it was too hard.

holy s***, the air pressure on the door is the RECOMMENDED pressure for THAT vehicle.

the air pressure on the TIRE is the MAX for THAT tire. NEVER fill to 44psi. it''ll ride like a hay wagon.

Is it just me or do you guys also notice that even though the recommended pressure for THAT vehicle is 33 psi, my tires are rated to around 50 psi max. I fill it up to 33 psi as recommended for THAT vehicle and the tire still looks flat?

I fill mine to 36 and I constantly check if they have lost air because they also look flat to me.

the nissan recommended air pressure of 33 psi works in unison with the suspension characteristics and safety requirements. The vehicle weight/load capacity , the tires recommended for OEM, (ply and rating) and vehicle suspension engineering all come into play when stating air pressure. Of course this will change with non OEM tires sizes and aftermarket wheels.
To soft and mushy leads to poor MPG, poor handling and delayed steering response., safety issue...
To hard, to much air leads to harsh ride, more abuse to the suspension and body, less contact patch on the road surface and possibly overheat the tires where a blow out can occur...also safety issue..
so finding the sweet spot or best psi for your combo would be the best...

I run 35 psi year round. radials always have looked a little flat when you have a tall side wall of 65 up...

also the recommended air pressure helps the tire absorb impacts in the roadway for that particular vehicle...

I have seen people put down chalk in the road and drive over it to see the contact pattern almost similar to driving thru a puddle and seeing the tire tread pattern as you pull out of it...
