Gusy i have a simple subject I need help on. I still have my stock wheels that I only drove about 2k miles on. I have been driving on 20"s for a few years now. the time has come for me to get new tires for my 20"s. So i have decided to sell my stock wheels/tires to help pay for the 20" tires. But, I want to remove the tire pressure monitors from the stock tires (I know I should have done that originally) to put in my 20"s when I get new tires and because they go with my car any way. here are my questions:

Can I remove the tire pressure montors from the stock wheels on my worn without taking them to a garage?

what do I need to replace the tire pressure monitors with for the stock wheels that I am going to sell?

do the tire pressure monitors need to be in the same original location where they were before I removed the stock wheels?

If you can think of any other good info please share. Also, I live in England right now, so I should be able to make a good buck selling the "like new" wheels/tires here. One pound is about 1.6 dollars :naughty:

Thanks!

1. If you have the tools to break the seal from the tire to the rim then yes you would probably be able to take it off. Once you break the seal you just have to bend the tire back enough where you can get your hand in there and remove it.
2. All you need to replace them with is regular valve stems no TPMS ones so that they take and hold air.
3. I would recommend yes if your not taking it to the dealer. I don't think its needed but i would do it, i had my buddy at Nissan remove and replace mine on my summers and he said they would probably be fine but he reprogrammed them for me since it takes 20 seconds.
Hope this helps!

thanks for the reply.

i was reading more about the topic, and its makes sense, that i need to have the pressure monitors reset or adjusted to the 20" rim tires. so, that means I have to find a garage or dealership that can do it. Does anyone know how much that usually costs?

You don't necessarily have to just because of a bigger rim, the PSI won't be that much different only a few psi max. But if you do go to a dealer they shouldn't charge you much since it takes 10 seconds to reprogram each sensor.

The tire shop changing your tires can move them from the old wheels to the new ones. There is no need to have the dealer re-set the TPMS sensors. They are also not position specific for the A/C so they can be moved from one corner of the car to another.

Mine are all mixed up and the system still functions fine. My new wheels also had to be drilled on the inside lip to accomodate them. This is what they look like installed:
