I damaged the rear left wheel on my 06' Z. I got lucky and found 2 wheels at the local flea market with matching Potenza rubber, identical to my Touring model. The used wheels in new condition are not equipped with pressure sensors. I see that at times used sensors can be had on e bay relatively cheep. The problem is that I don't see any information on how to change the sensors out. I wanted to leave the original wheels intact, as spares, so I really don't want to take them apart to get the sensors out. Putting the sensors in the wheels looks easy enough, but getting my car to "see" them is another issue.

Can anyone steer me to directions on resetting the sensors? I have an autoenginuity scan tool, but it doesn't support that function, at least the version I have doesn't.

I would say go to a dealership and ask them how to reset them.

Thanks for the tip,

but I'm a DiY type. I haven't gone to a dealer or other mechanic for many years. (except for warranty items) If we all went to the dealer for stuff like that we wouldn't need these forums, would we?

I bought one of those "el cheepo" shop guides off ebay. The LTPS system is covered quite well in the guide. The procedure includes learning the transmitted signal from the tire pressure monitor. You apparently have to contact the hand held unit to the transmitter, to register it. I'm afraid my laptop based system won't do that.

I will shop around for a better system. Mine is only about 2 years old, but it looks like it won't do radio frequency stuff, which new cars are adopting. It does communicate with CAN systems, but I have 2 cars with these RF systems, if I'm going to "play' with them, I will need some more toys. Maybe the Auto zone -purchase to return- units will do it.

By the way I was quoted by a dealer $200 to access the CAN system in my Z and register a wheel transmitter. Thats twice what I paid for 2 wheels and tires.

I found a reset tool on ebay and did some googling, this is from a tool website:"No. OTC-3831

Tire Pressure Reset Tool for Nissan

This tool is designed to extinguish the Tire Pressure Warning Light on 2003 and newer Nissan vehicles with TPM Reset Connector.

* The connector end of the cable mates to the vehicle connector found behind the DLC connector under the dash. * The alligator clip is clipped onto the metal bracket that holds the DLC connector. * Once connected and the ignition is turned on, the tool trigger is pressed 5 times within 10 seconds causing the warning light to start flashing. * With the tool disconnected, the vehicle can be started and driven over 30 mph until the light stops flashing, which completes the procedure."

-> This all looks pretty simple. I'm wondering if there is anything inside that tool, other than a momentary contact switch. maybe 5 trigger pulses to ground withing 10 seconds is all the system needs to start looking for 4 sensor signals. I think I'll find a try to find a Nissan mechanic to do some reasearch. I wouldn't try the grounding thing, just yet. -> I'm also not sure that my Murano, or my Z have a reset connector. I will look tomorrow.

The "proceedure" the website talks about, could just disable the sensors and maybe not relearn them. Not much detail given.
