Hey everyone, My friend bought a CVT SL over here in Louisiana the last time she came to visit me (she lives in Texas) and the car's been great overall. I drove with her back to Texas, and it was a comfortable, quiet, drama-free trip. Definitely an awesome car and it was fun using the bluetooth on the way there.

Anyway, she called me the other day with her first problem. She said that a light came on while she was driving and she didn't know what it was, but upon reading the owner's manual, she found it to be the tire pressure warning light. So she took it into the dealer and they checked the tire and the sensor, and everything checked out alright, so they reset the light and sent her on her way. Well now it came on again. She checked her tire pressure and it's at 32 pounds. Anybody else have a sensor just randomly malfunction like this? She obviously wants to get it fixed, but how do you go about convincing a dealer to do so (especially since most of them don't take the time to figure out what's wrong with it ) Anybody heard of this problem (and/or a solution to it) ?

Unfortunately, many of us have heard of this. Check the other threads (look below this post or search for TPMS) and you'll see that this may be the first semi-major issue for a recall.I'm gald you like your friend's Versa, maybe you'll get one too?

No, I think my maxima is here to stay for quite a while...gotta love the torque of the VQ and 31 highway mpg!

But I think her car did persuade my stepdad into getting one. I'm just not too sure about the 6-speeds (which is what he would want) reliability/feel wise...I heard they were pretty rubbery, and some people have had problems with the clutch...

That's weird about the tire pressure monitor being mentioned before, because i searched (using the search feature) and only found one malfunction caused by a blowout on the highway. I'll search manually and read up on it, so I can give her some more information. Maybe she can print a couple threads out and bring it to the dealer showing that it's a common problem.

Yeah I just read up on some of the other threads and it does seem like a pretty widespread issue...I'm betting that in order for this to be solved, nissan will eventually have to release a TSB, so that the technicians can ACTUALLY fix it...but until then, you probably either have to put up with the light, or make trips to the dealer every 1000 miles.

I know what you mean about the VQ torque. I had an '88 300ZX 2+2 and '92 and a '93 Max, both GXE.I let my cousin borrow my '92 for a few days while he was here visiting, and he liked it so much he bought a '93 SE and now races it most weekends. He wins quite a bit too from what I've heard. Gotta love that beautiful V6!

I wonder if we could shoehorn one into the Versa? Now THAT would be one sweet ride.

Actually, the 88Z and 89-94 Maxima GXE's had the VG, not VQ. Still a great motor...I love mine! '93 Maxima SE has the VE, which is derived from the VG, but more advanced, with dual overhead cams and some newer technologies.

The VQ is a whole different world, though. So much torque on the bottom end. I love it.
