I bought my I35 with a set of new no name tires in the front and stock bridgestones with maybe 30-20 percent tire thread left in the rear. With new tires in the front i had vibrations on the steering wheel at highway speeds so i got them balanced and some of it went away but slight vibrations persisted. My rims did not seem bent so i figured its the cheap tires' fault. I put the bridgestones in the front and the vibrations went away however at low speeds especially while breaking i hear grinding as if my bearings were shot. Some say this could happen with choppy tire thread . My question is what could possibly cause the vibrations . something in the control arms maybe? All help is greatly apreciated./..

first off...WELCOME TO NICO!!!

1. you should check your control arm bushings(where it bolts to the undercarriage).

2. pull off your rims and spin the disk with your transmission in neutral...if you hear it make contact with the pads in only one area...then you may have warpped rotors....get them turned at your local pepboys or midas for $10-$15.

3. to check your hub bearings, drive down the road near an object/building/solid railing so that you can hear your bearing. the soundwaves will deflect off the object allowing you to hear the noise better. if it has a ginding or ticking sound...your hub and bearing are bad, sorry.

The good news is you can do most of the work your self. disassemble the suspension, steering links, and control arm from the side with the bad bearing and hub...take the spindle to your local dealer or mechanic and have them press in a new hub and bearing...then bolt everything back together!!I'm going to be putting together a "HOW TO" for this project b/c i just got done doing all that about 1.5 weeks ago..so i'll repost it here for you too!!

good luck.

There is a great how to on http://www.motorvate.ca

The guy even bypassed the dealer by devising his own press method.
