Tire Noise EX35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I should have checked this site first and saved myself time. Into the dealer and was told of uneven tire wear - feathering. Terrible annoying noise at 21000m. Dealer gave me a Wheel alignment. Not any better. Had the good fortune of having a Mercedes for 20 yrs. but think the tires were Michelin. Car bought in the US but here in Canada they don't come with Dunlop - will check again what tire they use. Notice that the dealer has never followed the manual and has never rotated the tires, now at 26000m. Thinking this has added to the wear. If they aligned the wheels properly with the tires off and not by spinning them (not recommended in the manual) then you think they would have rotated them. I have a bone to pick.

    Hi,
What services have you done to your EX where the dealer should have rotated your tires? Did you have the dealer do your scheduled services? At 15K or so? Did you ask them to rotate when you had them aligned?

Or were you just hoping an assuming?

Right, I expected as with my past experience with Mercedes that they follow the manual rules ! I should not have to hope that they do it right. I have been diligent to the notices and all services has been with the dealer and on time, except that one was 1500m late because the dealer forgot I was not calibrated to kilometers. I would think that at least the service adviser would look at my record since the car was first purchased and make educated choices. Do I need to do his job too. c

To ans. your question about what services the dealer did. I went in because of the disturbing noise not knowing it was the tires. Had the oil, filter change done at the same time. If the wheels were off due to their suggestion of alignment and since the tires had never been rotated on any visit then that might have been the time to do it?

So after reading your Posts, I'm not 100% sure if you have Dunlops on your EX35 now or not?

If you do, they are sh*tty Tires... and feather and cup and chop as you drive down the Road.

Go on TireRack and read the Reviews on the Dunlop 7000's. They are a sh*tty Tire. Have I said that yet?

I have another Month to go and my OEM Dunlops get taken off the Rims... and hopefully that will be end of that.

However, the two new Victory Motorbikes we bought in the Spring, also came with Dunlops... and once they wear out, I'll be putting Michelins on.

Eventually, I'll get Dunlops out of my life.

I get the point. Haven't had this brand since way back when I could afford no other.
The Dealer suggested Toyo at $264 per. What do you think?

Keep in mind that I have a set of Winter Tires, for where I live.

So when I replace my Dunlops for Summer Tires, I'll be buying these ones at a reduced price >>> http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... mpare1=yes

Dealers usually charge top dollar for everything.

Here is the list that TireRack offers for 225/55/18...

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearc ... iameter=18

Of all the brands they carry, none of them come close to your $264.00

On TireRacks ordering page, go through the motions of ordering a set and having them shipped to where you live... just to see how much it'll cost you per tire.

TireRack usually gets me my four Tires delivered up to Alberta Canada within five days. They ship to me from Reno Nevada. You can choose different Warehouse locations through-out the USA.

I appreciate the information. You have more severe weather than we do in Ont. and we drive south in the winter so this vehicle has never been in snow. I am going to check prices here and in the US in case I can't make it until spring. Thanks for all the input.

Just a little slow getting out this reply. Thks for the heads up although I had pretty well decided against this tire as being overly expensive.- probably more that we spent on our Corvettte. We also own a FX with Bridgestone tires that are more worn than and sthe EX and still without any noise.
Got the maintenance thing worked with a better explanation of how it's done. Apparently, those who lease or don't keep their cars for more than a few years - do the minimum. Something to consider when buying those 'low mileage vehicles. Infinity has a special overall inspection going on right now which matches up with my time for an oil change etc. so I am in there tomorrow.

As a general rule, I think most of the mainstream tire manufacturers out there have at least 1 sh*tty model tire which they've produced....even Michelin, which I consider to be about the best manufacturer out there (Dunlop, on the other hand, is at the other end of the spectrum; they've produced plenty of sh*ty tires). So, it will come down to researching both brand and model tire before you make a move....not just the brand. This is becoming especially true since many formerly off-brand tire companies (Hankook, Cooper, yes...even Nitto) have been producing some really excellent quality, solid performing products the last few years....but again, it will come down to the model of tire you are considering.

That sounds reasonable and will try checking out what Michelin has to offer when the time comes.
I was given a new sm booklet last week, when getting service at the dealers, that has been produced to better explains their service program and am more satisfied with the set up. They are also telling me that most people want the very least done since they lease or turn over their cars often. I own for the life of the vehicle.
Apparently, I my tires have been rotated. They did slip up once skipping a scheduled checkup by forgetting I am calibrated in miles and not Kilometers. As for the tires, I am living with the noise knowing that it is nothing more serious.

I found the General Altimax tires to be the quietest tires i've ever owned. I've had them on my 525i and Camry and will only purchase these for all my cars in the future. Check em out. You won't be disappointed. Also, they are not too expensive. Toyo's suck! I got those for my BMW and after 10k miles they started making a lot of noise. After 20k miles I couldn't take it any more so I replaced them with the General Altimax, even though there was still plenty of tread left.
