Hi Everyone,

Just purchased my new 2008 Altima Coupe SE 3.5 CVT.......my tire monitoring light came on the other day. I took the car to my favorite tire guys because I didn't have a gauge on me. I said the tire were over-inflated (35 psi instead of 30) and took out some of the air but not all because the tires were warm and he said they would deflate a bit more after they cooled down. All was well till this morning, when it came back on again. I did have one friend tell me she has the same thing in her Subaru and the light is always coming on for various reasons, most of which have nothing to do with the tire pressure, but rather the weather conditions, etc.

Anyone else deal with this? This is the first car I have owned with this system in place....

Thanks,Denise

UPDATE: I thought I would let everyone know that my TPMS light has continued to blink off and on over the past few weeks. Finally, over the past week, it has just stayed on all the time. Keep in mind I called both Nissan dealerships in my city about the light and they kinda just blew me off and said it our weird Northwest weather. I said I could believe the weather thing if the darn light had just worked from the get go, I mean this is a new car we're talkin about!......anyway, I had had enough and took it in today to have them check it. BOOYA! The damn thing was defective, just as I had suspected from the beginning. So, they ordered a new part and I should be good to go shortly! I've never been so happy to have something wrong with my new car in my life! It was either that or the techs had me convinced I just didn't have a clue.....

Right now you are just guessing by taking some air out.

Correct the PSI when the tires are cold, I usually wait until the next morning. Once you drive a certain distance, it should go off.

If not, it may be faulty?

I think that once you get the tires to the pressure that you want, you have to reset or 'relearn' the system. Otherwise, it may think that you do have low tire pressure. I haven't performed this on my Alti yet, but have on other cars. Try looking for the procedure in the manual if your car came with one.

edit: OK, so I guess you don't reset the system manually. Just make sure you have the correct tire pressure, then drive above 16 MPH to activate the system and it should turn off IF your tires have the correct pressure. The manual states that it can be affected by the outside temp. if it is cold.

Yes, I will just start from scratch, so to speak. Since the car is new and has been at the dealership since 2008 (i bought it with 59 miles) Im guessing I just need to check the pressure in the morning, when the tires are cold, make sure the psi is right and re-set the system. That will be the task for tomorrow.....will check in after that with results

That's amazing! How did the dealership still have an '08 3.5 sitting on the lot brand new?! The dealership where I got mine had about 10 '09s on the lot a few months ago, and now they have no coupes and only a few '09 sedans left. I think Cash 4 Clunkers was good to them if the row of beaters in back means anything.

I know, I couldn't believe it but through some serious research and several hours online, I actually found some dealerships in Idaho and Cali that had 08s....brand new! If anyone is interested, There is a dealership in National City, Ca that has 7 new 08 Altima Coupes in varying trim levels. Also, there is a dealer in Nampa, Idaho that 2 of them, loaded with Nav. And the place I purchased from, Joe Hall Nissan in Lewiston, Idaho had 4 of them, 2 with the options I wanted, which was everything but Nav, since I already own a very nice Garmin GPS.

I believe the dealership in National City is called Massey.......considering the cash for clunkers deal, I couldn't find any dealers willing to deal under MSRP for my Coupe.......the invoice price was over $28,500.......I paid $25200 + a $99 doc fee and Wa St tax.......HELLUVA DEAL! The time spent was well worth it to get my dream car !

alright just to throw in my 2cents i work at tire kingdom, and the best thing u could do is hot or cold air them up to 32 and drive about 2-3 miles if it doesnt go off by then either the sensor is broken off the rim of its shorting out. if it doesnt go off get them to hook it up to a diagnostic programmer and figure out which tire it is then take it off the rim and inspect/ replace

Last time I checked the inside of my door jamb, I think you're supposed to have 33 pounds in each tire for the A/C, so 35 shouldn't set the warning light off unless you have some faulty TPMS. A 2PSI difference shouldn't set off your light.

TPMS only throws the light on if your tires are too low or there is a malfunction, not if it's too high.

OK, reporting back regarding my TPMS.....yesterday, early evening, after the tires cooled down, I checked the pressure, which was @ 35psi for all of them. I let a little air out of each, drove about 16mph for a bit, and the light has not come on since. I'm going to write it off to new car break-in and if it comes on again, I'll just take it in to the stealership......new car, warranty will take care of it. All's well and thanks to everyone for your valuable comments!
