Post

Hi there,

I took my car in this morning to get my front headlight installed and I also had a tire pressure warning. The service technician tells me that my R/R tire is missing the sensor. I don't know anything about cars, but supposedly, you would have to remove the entire tire for to remove the sensor.

I have always had my car serviced at Nissan and there is no way that I could have taken the tire out... I can't even get a headlight installed, let alone remove a tire.

I am wondering if anybody else has had this problem... tire sensor disappearing/gone missing or how could it be removed. I am not even sure what the tire sensor monitor looks like.

Any help is great appreciated.

Thanks

The sensor is part of the air valve on each rim.

There are 4 possible explanations.

1: The sensor is gone. ( Doubtful if you have never had a flat repair done.2: The pickup portion inside the vehicle is not detecting the sensor inside the rim.3: The battery inside the rim sensor has died and is not sending a signal to the pressure system. (Most likely)4: The sensor is broken or damaged and again is not sending a signal.

REMEDY:

1: Have the tire removed from the suspect rim. And be sure to let them know you have a pressure detection system on your vehicle. If they don't get told in advance they might break the sensor off when they remove the tire. ( Sensors are not cheap either!)

2: Have the suspect wheel moved to another corner. See if the system detects that the wheel has been moved.

Either way the cost is about the same to trouble shoot the problem.

You may have to purchase a new sensor becasue there is no way I am aware of that disables the system (I have it on my 2004 Quest)

I run a Firetone dealership, the only way to remove the air sensor is to dismount the tire. If you have had the tires rotated lately normally the spare tire is not equiped with a sensor, check your spare and see if it has a sensor.

I was told the spare also has a sensor.

I haven't had the tires removed at all. Never repaired any flats. I've only serviced my car at Nissan and they have also claimed that I have removed my tire... I took my truck in to change a headlight bulb. If I can't change a headlight, what makes them think i can manually remove my tire... I'm 5'2" and 98 lbs

The SC models come with Aluminum wheels and the spare is normally mounted on a steel wheel which as the Tire Manager said does not come with a pressure sensor.

Take the Frontier back the dealer (provided they are indeed the ones who did all the service) and talk to the service manager and explain to him what has happened. When you talk to the service manager, make sure you remain calm and stick to the facts. Ask them to check the sensor and see why it is not sending a pressure signal to the system. This repair is something that will not be covered by warranty unless they did something to cause the problem. Make sure the Service Manager knows that you have your truck serviced only by them. (This works in your favor for aksing for a deal on service later) I always ask if I can get a break on my service and parts for being a loyal customer and I usually get 10% on service and 15% on parts. If you don't ask you'll never get a deal.

Good luck!

If the sensor did quit be prepared for a bit of shock......the sensors aren't cheap! Big-Bird

I contacted the Nissan dealer they said in 2003 the spare tires were not equipped with sensors so I am thinking they rotated your spare tire on the vehicle when they rotated tires.
