What is the minimum tire load for a 1992 Q45?

The stock size 215/65/15 in a Falken 512 is 94. The 225/60/15 is 96. Which is acceptable? Which is desirable?

Is 94 enough? What would I notice between the 215 and the 225 tire width?

Thanks,Ken K

A load index of 95 is the generally accepted minimum. More is better! 96 or 97 would be better, for example.

Be careful not to fall into the "only 1 below is okay" trap, that means it's only 1 below when new, and further as it ages. I'm sure this was taken into account when establishing the minimum.

Long term sidewall stiffness is noticable with tires having a load rating at 99 or even 100.

And 235-60s are a better fit for 15s. 225-60s would be a smaller diameter than the 215-65s. Here's a calculator for tire sizing:

235-60-15 is usually a 98 rating so those are perfect!

I find it incredible that Falken would make an OEMspecific size tire that doesn't meet OEM spedification! What were they thinking?

Actually, the tire website had the 215/65/15 as 94H load index and have now corrected it. In actual fact, the tire is 96H, so it is actually slightly higher than the minimum that is listed (95).

ThanksKen K

Unfortunately, the max load is at max inflation [not typical to see tires inflated to 44 or 51 psi.

What we don't know is the effect of lower than max inflation. Older tires used 35 psi [for 36 psi max] to test max load...........but whether this applies to 44/51 is extremely doubtful.

The 95V oem minimum load index was for Michelins top of the line tire, whether one could compare a lesser brand and equivalence is unknown.
