This thread is to help you figure out the load capacity of a tire by its Load Index. I'll be adding more information as I find good sources online to link here.

Here is a good chart showing the maximum load of tires at 35psi based on the Load Index marked on the tire's sidewall. I located this on the Yokohama website:

I'll try to find a listing based on actual tire size and Load Index as well.

Hi, Grant.

I have found a large number of places that list this index in varying formats and ranges. The values are all reasonably consistent, so this must be some standard government body settings, I would guess.

What I am far more interested in are the tables you talked about that show the capacity derating with pressure lowering. I.e., what the capacity actually is, for each load index, when pressure is lowered from 35 psi (which is where these Yokohama load index values are measured).

I charted the ones you had given me in that other thread, and it looks pretty easy to make an Excel spreadsheet out of the data! Can you perhaps postal-mail or fax me a copy of the cheat sheet you mentioned? I can scan it in, make a simple calculation program and make it available to NICO members!

Can you email me or call direct? That would be great if we could get this information in a format we can post in the tire questions area.
