For my 17's I had them in 245/45 ZR17 @ $210 each. Not cheap at all.I was thinking of trying out the Kumho ectsa 712 at half price.

I <did> like the SZ50 EP's a lot tho.

Fred...:)

Hi, Fred.

By the way, Tire Rack now has the SZ50EP in 245/45-17 for $169 each (the run-flat version is more expensive, of course, but I would not consider those anyway). The price has come down a bit, I guess.

Wow, that is coming down quite a bit...you think those are really worth 60 bucks more than the Yoko ES100's?

I do not know about the Yokohama model you mentioned, so I cannot compare. All I can say is that I am extremely pleased with the SZ50EP's and will use them again - for my Q and my wife's Acura. They are the best tires I have ever used compared to a short list that I have had in the past - see earlier post from me in this thread.

Another comment I forgot to add earlier. After about 3 to 4k miles (I forget exactly how long), I had a nail in one tire, and took the opportunity to re-balance all of them. I asked the technician to spin up the non-nail wheels prior to taking the weights off and he was surprised that two of the three tires did not need their weights changed! And the third one was not far off. He remarked that this was the first time that he had seen tires hold their balance so well after that many miles. I think it is an indication of how well the tires are constructed.

They are clearly very good tires.Even dennis gave them his grudging nod (even tho he is a Michelin fan).

They also have a good looking tread pattern.if you think you wont feel pressed to extend their life cuz they are spendier,I would definetly get them.

I am pretty sure I will put them on my next Q.

Fred...:)

The old style SZ50 lasted 20,000 miles on my Q just removed them 2 weeks ago [snow] and gave then to a friend for his little car where he might get another 10,000 miles.

Probably one of the strongest performance tires in the under $200 range.

Wow, I guess I'm convinced...I have my 17" rims 400 miles away right now so I've got to schedule a visit down to LA to get them, but now I'm pretty sych'ed to get them on....thankfully my dad had just put new tires on his 92 before he gave it to me so no worries there for awhile.
