Looking for guidance in selection for tires for my '96 Q.Recently had rear crossmember/bushings replace as well as Tokiko Blue struts all around. Now I need tires to help smooth out this much harsher ride over our torn up SF streets.

I have Yokoamas on it now, quiet but still rough.

Not even sure if they make them anymore, at least in Q45 G50 OEM size, but try Yoko AVS DBII. It's an all-season tire that performs exceptionally well, is relatively quiet, and relatively inexpensive. Check out Tire Rack and Discount Tire. I paid $80 each for my last set at Discount for my '94 "t" model, which I traded in on my '05 Q45 last January. I was well pleased with them, and I'm unusually fussy about tires.

Michelin Pilot Sport Exalto has been a long standing favorite of a majority of members here. Can be bought in 215/65R15 with a H speed rating or 225/60R15 with a V speed rating.

I have just over 50,000 miles on my 225/60/15V Exaltos, wearing evenly{last alignment done at time of their installation}, about another 10K miles left of tread if you wanted to run down til legal limit {2/32}, will replace soon when get to 4/43. Excellent tire for factory wheels.

I just put 4 BFG G-Force 225/60R15 96V tires on the '96with the 15" turbine wheels. Also have Tokicos and the FSB, new brakesand front end bushings, upper links and such. Quick and nimble - we have these tires on the porsche 944 as well. Sticky and great ride, better than the XV4 Mikes before - the Q won't quite corner on three wheels like the Porsche, but BFG is back , see COSTCO for a deal.

Since Michelin purchased BFG they have improved greatly, but still the lower cost generic brand that does not get much engineering, testing, or quality budget. Especially in the noise and wet braking areas.

If my family were riding in a Q they would be on Michelins even if we had to skip a few meals to pay for them.

Usual report is the BFG get pretty noisy around 10K and traction has degraded considerably.

While indisputably being a higher strength carcass, the only Michelin I have liked in the wet has been the PS2. GTH, GTZ have proved slipperier than Cheney at a press conference. Never have MXM. PS1 etc., nor do I ever intend to do so.
