Yes they will fit. If you say that the 285's are inset, however, and assuming we have the same definition of "inset" then you will end up more inset than you currently are. I'll be glad, and so will others, to help but we'll need a little more light shed on it. Pics work best!

My GT-R has 18X9.5 and I am running 265/35 Bridgestones with a VERY minor stretch. 265/35 on an 8.5J wheel would be pretty normal looking.

They still won't sit flush, but if they are inset to far, they might rub when turning. Look into getting some spacers to bring the wheels out a bit if you have clearance issues when turning.
