I want to replace my stock tires with ones a little more performance oriented ( I'll be trying out the Fuzion Zri's ) and wanted to know what everyone that has stock wheels is running. Are you sticking with the factory 205/55 or are you going a little wider with say a 225/50?Both are nearly identical for side wall heigth but I'm not sure the wider wheels will fit on the stock rims, need alittle help please, thanks

just stick with the 205s, assuming your not putting down any serious power.

I guess the second part of that question should have been " will I see any gains/downfalls in performance with the different tire". I can't imagine any large difference being made but it never hurts to ask, right?

With a wider tire there will be more side wall flex because of the skinny oem width and you don't want that. A sticky 205 will be your best bet.

The ZRI's have an extremely smaller tread width compared to the section width written on the sidewall. I know there is tons of "these are the best tires in the world" reviews out there, but you might want look at the zri's tire specs to find wich section width tire will give you a tread width closer to what you would expect from other 205 tires. Basically with the ZRI's you could go wider and still be as wide as a 205 tire from anohter make.

Check out this comparison with a Yokohama es100 with the same section width.http://www.3si.org/forum/printthread.php?t=229947

Specs from tirerack.com

ES100 205/55/16 Sect. width: 8.3" Tread wdth: 7.5"

Fuzion ZRI 205/55/16 Sect. width: 8.3" Tread wdth: 6.6" (ouch!)

Fuzion ZRI 225/50/16 Sect. width: 9.1" Tread wdth: 7.2" (still smaller that es100 205/55 tread width)

205-55-15 fits perfect..and grip is a fucntion more of tread design and compound that tire size....this has been duscussed writ large..check the stickies

I ran some nice V-rateds both by Yokohama and BFG and was satisfied with their grip at that time (before my GRam Light and PS2 changover..mmmm)

Thanks for the info guys, guess I made some assumptions about tire sizes that were incorrect. I'll search a little deeper next time.

BTW I like this Einstein quote better:

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe."

Another solid on:

"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."

I don't disagree with what you say and thanks for making the point about compound and tread design. I have seen them in person on a friends sc300 and both he and I were dissapointed with there appearence. He had that stretched look without even trying to, but for the price and grip I can see the value in them.

240sx2soon I just wanted to give you an idea of how it might look. Sorry if my information was discouraging, but I just didn't want you to be bummed if they didn't meet your expectations in appearance. Let us know how they drive when you get them.
