Many Z drivers have been complaining about tire feathering on their Z'

Some have stated that due to this design flaw, their front tires <only> last 10,000 miles.

Whats the big deal?

On a high performance car using lots of camber, aggressive suspension settings and (soft) performance tires, 15,000 miles is the respsonbile maximum I would ever keep a tire anyway.

I am not a rich man, but even on my Q45, I didnt keep tires more than 15-20,000 miles.

So in the end, you lose only about 5000 miles of usable tire miles.

Inconvinient but not a big deal I would say?

Also:Why are so many Z drivers trying to get 20,000 miles and more out of a set of tires?

I read complaint"yes I am at 20,xxx miles and the dealer is prorating tire replacement etc etc"Prorating to what milage?

Its a performance car with a (soft) performance tire.Anything over 15,000 miles is probably too much.

On a car using suspension settings as aggressive as a Z, I wont keep a tire more than 15k miles, tops, even w/o "tire feathering" issue.

Anything more than that and the carcass is probabaly coming apart anyway.

Even the most expensive tires internals, rarely work near new after 15 k miles ,even if the tread looks like its good for 50k miles (never, ever, keep a tire as long as the advertised milages)

Treadwear is just that , "Treadwear", and equally important factor is the longevity of the internal contrusction, which rarely exceeds 15k even on expensive tires.

When you go to cheaper tires that have high treadwear rating the diference between what you see and what goes on inside gets even worse.A 60k miles tread wear warranty is achieved with hard rubber= bad for stopping +braking, while the carcass is probaly bad (goes out of balance quickly) by 10k miles.

i agree. i think the people complaining are mainly the people that buy the Z not because it is a Z and is sporty, but because it looks cool and it is popular. and since those people don't understand sports cars, when their tires start wearing weird compared to their sedans, they freak out. i say don't listen to them nissan and keep the suspension they way it is.

Because a large majority of Z33 owners aren't enthusiasts...

Probably the nicest way I can put that.

this thing about owners of z33's not being enthusiast reminded me when i saw a z33 with a crunched front quarter panel, and a woman was driving it. *sigh*

i agree, there are quite a few enthusiasts out there, but there are those few that aren't. i give it a year or two when all the leases start ending and then the Z's will be in better hands.
