I am about to replace the existing Michelin Sport tires and am deciding between the Kumo Ecsta Platinum, SPT or the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.

I live in Florida, so no snow to consider. I like and smooth and comfortable ride with NO NOISE !

Any suggestions? Keep in mind the Michelins are about $100 more per tire.

Thanks

I am leaning toward the platinums my self. But since you are in the south you could probably get away with a very good (quiet) summer tire.

For an M35/M45, I think the PS2 is overkill. It is a phenomenal tire but is really meant for very high performance applications. I have had both the original Pilot Sports and the PS2s on my 500rwhp Z32 and there really is no comparison, the PS2s are quite easily the best tires I've ever had but it is not something I would put on my M45.

The PS2's are an excellent tire. So, yes, I would recommend it. The cost is high, but you get what you pay for: an excellent, quiet, high-performance summer tire. There are alternatives available to this tire that are close in performance and quietness, for less cost, if that is an issue.

FWIW, I always recommend people not spend money on their wheels - if the cash is burning a hole in your wallet, use the funds on great tires instead.

If money is not an issue go with PS2. Otherwise, yokohama s.drive is a very good cheaper alternative to PS2. It has very good reviews on tirerack.

Not sure if you have the Base or Sport model but I put on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 on my 2007 M35 Sport about 8K miles ago and love them. The original Potenza's were junk. I hated driving my car in the rain because it felt like you were hydorplaning the whole time. These tires are excellent in the rain, living in Houston you need that option, and when dry. So far no noise, reduced tram lining and would buy these again. Slightly cheaper than PS2's but I would say just as good. I would have gotten PS2's until I read on other high performance car forums the rave reviews.

Hey there and Welcome to Nico HootyDootyMan very creative username

I have to agree with RAGTPZ in his statement, about the PS2s. If a quiet driving experience is your primary objective in your tire selection there are a few other choices you may want to consider.

I'm in the market for a set of 245/45/18 mid level performance A/S tires, so far I have narrowed my selections down to Yoko Advans, Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M (the small breaks in the blocks will provide better wet traction), and Pirelli PZero Nero All Season. The goal in my upcoming tire selection choice is overall ride quality with slight underlying performance, oh and then there is price.

My current favorite summer tire.

Not as inexpensive as other brands and models, but less than the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.

I drive an 02 Q45 sport w/ factory 18" rims. I am now on my third set of khumos Ecstas. I put on the first set at 62,000 miles and now at 161,000 I have about 10k left on the third set. I run the 255/45/18 which is just a little larger that stock of 245/45/18. I have been VERY happy with the tires performance. As a note, I tend to drive for mpg and not rpms!!!!! so I can't address more aggressive driving results. Also, they are a quite tire.

Some posters really slam on the khumos but after 100k miles...there are a very good tire.
