Well, when I get wheels (soon!), I'm gonna need tires. The wheels will be 17x8 +28, and eventually I will have coilovers. Sooo...I found S03 pole positions in 235/40/17 for $600 shipped. Or, I could get 225/45/17 Kumho MX for like $550 from tirerack, or ES100s in either size if I decide to go cheaper on the tires (more like $485 for those). I use my car for occasional runs to the store/restaurants/friends houses, autoX, and mountain roads, so I want somethign pretty grippy. Basically, its a fun car, not really a daily. I can use my stock SE wheels for road trips and stuff. What would be a better option for the tires?

s03's are bad-***. period. costly, but bad-***. THe MX's are good for the money, as well as the es100's..but the es100's wont hold up to repeated thrashing..but are grippier at lower temps than the MX's....

If I was you, I'd just ante up and get the s03's.-chet

If they still have them when I have enough money, I probably will. Hopefully, I'll be able to buy them within 2 weeks or so...$150 each is a great price.

BS on the ES100's having more grip than the MX in any situation.

I've driven on both... MX's almost have the same grip as the fabled BFG KD's and have way more grip than the ES100's.

S03's have a problem with heat cycling the rubber too fast causing them to get harder quickly but are an excellent tire.

I'd get the MX and have a more stable tire compound along with the lighter weight. Only down fall is the S03 has mad sidewall stiffness that only the Azenis RS215 compares to.

cool, I'm pretty mcuh settled on MX..but now I'm thinking about going with a 225/50/16 on a 16x8. We'll see.

ever driven a MX or other high-heat tollerance tire at 28 degrees ambient? the ES100's stays decently sticky at those temps because of the silica...something the MX doesnt have....

they don't have the same grip either..close, but not there.

also, the s03 would wax the MX in wet conditions....and it does ahve the crazy stiffness and reinformement to not have contact patch distortion under high cornering loads like the other two options... (the es would be the worst, of course).

My preference goes in order of cost, like many things..better costs more:S03MXEs100

but then again, you get what you pay for. And for the money, the MX is a bad-*** tire...I'll ride on ps2's over them anyday tho

Love you alan!

turtle: that's a good size for that wheel...
