I know this is a 240 forum but i always wondered if the tiptronic trannys the sell on cars now a days are junk. I mean its still an automatic transmission, but you are just telling it when to shift. Also does it rob you of some power like a normal automatic transmission?

Yes, they still use a torque converter so you are still losing some power there. But at least u can make the shifting calls.

They are a lot more fun to play with than regular auto's. I worked at a dealership, so I got to play with eveything they had. :D I would still rather have a regular standard anyday though.

Unless I absolutely have to, I will never drive an automatic (or any of its variants) ever again. (This excludes my dads b15..)

Some tiptronics, if not all, will still shift for you if it revs too high though. So says my friend with an Audi a4. I drove them at the mazda rev it up. I prefer just using the normal auto setting myself as I kept nocking it back over to the drive position any ways. :batman

dude i was at RevItUp also! pretty cool stuff huh? Anyway, my sisters jetta 1.8t has it- the time delay between your shift and the trannys shift is gross.

You'd be better power shifting a normal auto transmission...

sorry if this sounds tupid but just exactly what do u mean by powershifting an auto? I have heard of a neutral drop but that is about it.

On my dads b15 it goes as follows : OD off down to first, second, drive, OD back on. Just add the appropriate gears in there if you have a 5 spd auto.

Man it was a total blast. I got a big black X over my card for wreckless driving in the practice place. Take out about 8 cones and almost get the timing light and then well whooo hooo hell yeah and they don't take to kindly to it. Yes I realize I am a jackass. Yeah loved if they have it again I'll try and go. I was at the atlanta one. :batman

A nissan sponcered event perhaps using the se-r and maybe even the spec-v version. That would be so sweet. $0 bucks well spent indeed especially with the test driving thing they had set up that was pretty cool as well.
