Has anyone else had this happen.
Whilst driving in Tiptronic mode it will just go into Automatic drive mode. The display also shows "D" on the dash board. The manual shifter now has no effect moving from Tipronic(DS) to Drive.
The only way now is to turn the car off and then back on again.
I have a 2007 G35x. I first noticed this 3 months ago and I just ignored it because it was infrequent. But now it happens every time, and I know I will be able to show the Infiniti mechanic this for sure when I take it in tomorrow.
I'm hoping that this gets fixed under warranty or else I'll be writing to Infiniti.

I'm at the dealer right now...working from here.(Good thing they have internet). The mechnic took the car out for a spin and could not get it to fail.
Anway the asked me if I had the Transmission fluid topped up recently because it was too much. I told them that I had an oil change done at another dealer about 2 months back. Anyway, they were going to drain it a bit I guess. They also wanted to do some brake work....would cost about $500 for machining rotors etc. The mechanic said it vibrated when braking.
I declined the job...I have not noticed it that much.
...I saw the mechanic take the car out again, and this time when he brought it back, it went straight into the garage.
The mecahnic said he experinced the problem and that its the transmission module.
Waiting to see what happens next. :)

Suby01 -- I'm surprised that you had to get your switch replaced twice already...Its not a common problem ??. I tried searching my problem before posting.

yea its on here. theres deff like 2 or posts up about this. but ya i had it done twice because i drive 98% of time in manual mode. the rest is in D. never ds. so a lot of up and down shifts and it wears out i guess.

hope dealer fixes it. it is a common problem. dont let them tell you otherwise.

Update: Ok, so they replaced the transmission module.
I drove all the way home in tiptronic mode just to make sure. I use manual mode most of the time when slowing down, using engine braking, thats probably why I have not noticed the vibration the mechanic reported from his first test drive. I never hard brake and make jack rabit starts....just too old for all that or just grown out of it!
Sometimes I wonder if the service advisors and mechanics work on commisson.
Anyway, hope this helps anyone else.

Tiptronic is actually Audi's trademark name for it. Just saying. Not being a douche.
I've rarely seen failures there though.

Had exactly the same problem just a week ago.

Mine is A 2008 ex35 AWD. Yes, I drive 99% in manual mode. Now, I only use the M if needed to pass. Work done was replaced 1-2 gear shifter assemble.
