Ok so im very new to this site, so if there is an article that sums this up than feel free to post the link.

I have never done any work on a 240sx, or any nissan for that manner, so i thought i would consult you guys before i fix my brothers roasted clutch in his 240. It looks fairly straightforward, but i just wanted to know if there are any tips, tricks, or frequent hangups when it comes to swaping out the clutch? the clutch im thinking of getting is from Kragan for $120 and is a factory replacement. is this a good choice, or would you guys recommed another?

By the way its mostly a commuter car, but he does like to get on it at times.

thanks a ton for your help, steve

Exedy is the brand that makes the OEM Nissan clutches. I scooped an Exedy kit off eBay for about $100. I'd go that route.

Replace the rear main seal when you do the clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced. Torque the pressure plate properly and grease the input shaft.

Thanks guys for your help guys. Rucca- why do you suggest a new rear seal and how hard is it to reach it? also whats the proper Lb/ft when it comes to torqing the pressure plate and flywheel?

The rear main seal I suggest because it is a common leak on older cars and requires removing the trans and flywheel. Basically it is right there when you are doing the clutch so why not do it. Torque specs can be found in the service manual, don't know them off the top of my head but they are two stages, like torque to 15ft lbs then 25 ft lbs.

be careful some of those are Exedy clutches and no name pressure plates. make sure its the full blown thing.

there are also smaller brands that are highly respected check the NICO sponsors for the products to see how they should look before you look for them on ebay.

i dotn think he has too many miles on it. mabe 130k. its an hour away from me, so i dont know all the specifics right now. ill look into the rear seal though. also how hard is it to remove the transmission. do i need a jack, or can i just man it off with my arms and chest?

i was also wondering what are some typical performance mods that you guys do to these cars? i was maybe thinking of surprising him with a better running and more reliable car.

as far as the clutch goes i think im just going to pay kragen $120 for the kit. plus it has a warranty that isnt really a hastle. i really dont want to get scammed over ebay especially since i dont know this platform well at all.

any other tips, or recomendations? you guys are quite helpfull.
