Post

Hello all! I am new to the board and already have a question. I have a 2010 Rogue Krom Edition in Wicked Black. I named my car (yes, I name my cars.. LOL), Elvira (hence the username), and have an appointment tomorrow morning to have my front windows tinted. I am also getting the strip on the top of my windshield. My question/issue is this... I am not sure if I want to get the 20% (Illegal in TN) or 35% (legal in TN). I have done a search and found a couple of pics of rogues with tinted windows, but wanted to see if anyone had any additional pics they would like to share (especially if you have a black one). I am leaning toward the 35% because I'm the one who gets busted for everything, but would like to see examples.

Thanks all!

That looks really cool! I'm going to pick up Elvira here in an hour or so.I ended up deciding on the 35% though due to a couple of stories I've heard about some local law enforcement really enforcing the tint laws, (my friend told me this morning that her fiance' was pulled over a while back and a cop used a razor blade to scrape his windows to ensure he had to have the tint removed).

Your car looks great though! I'm thinking about adding the roof racks to mine to add more chrome. I will try to post a pic of mine in case anyone else is trying to decide.

SUV/crossover always have a different law about tinting windows comparing to regular car. There's a lower chance that you would be pulled over for the tinted windows on bigger car unless this is really dark like 5% limo style. Usually people get pulled over for something else rather than tinted windows and later on they might get ticket for tinted windows instead of other violation or as addition to other violation. My front windows are tinted as 20% for over 2 years already on my Rogue and police always pulled over me for something else. Last time I was pulled over for tinted headlights (about a year ago) but the cop didn't say a word about windows.

20% on the fronts on mine. Love the way it looks.
Here, 35% is just as illegal as 20%, so I figured why not. Most of the cops here are pretty cool about it and will let you off with a warning. Yet to be pulled over! Though, I don't have a front license plate at the moment (Required in Alaska) cause some jack*ss backed into me at a stop light and gouged the bumper, cracked the paint, and tore the license plate bracket off.
I know you already got yours, but I'll throw up a pic anyway. :P

Sorry I didn't see our post earlier. 20% is definitely illegal in TN. If you decided to go with 35% you are safe... because that the legal percentage in TN. It is also illegal to install mirrored finish films on back or side windows in TN. (although mirrored film along the top of the windshield is okay)

Wondering what the Tint Laws are where you live? Here's a link that provides the tint laws, state by state in the US.

I love my tint. Not only does it add a level of coolness and mystery... but it keeps your interior cooler and protects your interior from harmful UV rays.

For comparison... here's my Rogue... 35% in the front ... 20% in the back

Just FYI... my car was due for its annual motor vehicle inspection last month. As part of the testing, the inspector placed a light meter device on my windows. He said the instrument measured the amount of light the film would let pass to determine if it was within the legal percentages allowed by law. If it didn't pass... they would fail the vehicle and I would have to remove the film if I wanted to renew y registration. The good news is ... it passed inspection :dblthumb: (North Carolina)
