Tint w/ Diamond Cut IR Tint on my EX35!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Finally got my EX35 tinted @Premier Mobile Group. Sam and Wilson @Premier Mobile Group gave me a thorough tour of their facility where I saw a GTR, 2 Porsche (a 997 GT3 & a 911 Turbo) and an AMG CLK63 in their gararge! They carry various type of tinting films and was given a demo on each of these films. The best was their Diamond Cut IR Tint. They used a 'heat light' (kinna like those red heating light used for roast beef / prime rib) facing towards an electrical heat sensing meter that shows how much heat is captures at the spot (not sure what that is called...). They pulled out each film and lay b/w the light and the meter to show me the effects of the films. Without any tinting films b/w the light and the meter, the meter was showing 273 on the scale (not sure what the unit is). W/ a limo tint (Madico) placed b/w the light and the scale, the scale showed 85. They put the Diamond Cut IR Tint film in between and the scale dropped to just 23! I placed my hand behind the film and the meter and was amazed how much heat the Diamond Cut Film blocked! Even the lightest 73% Diamond Cut IR Film has a 94% heat rejection and a 99% UV blockage but it's clear enough not to get pull overed by the cops. I ended up choosing 73% in the front windows (including the windshield) and 33% at the rear. Just was done in about 5.5 hrs and the outcome was awesome! They did a very good and clean job ! It was still bright sun light outside (but it was chilly already) and I already felt the difference in terms of the IR heat blockage. This afternoon, I got my chance to really experience the tint (since it's bright out and hot) and whow...big difference b/w this type of film and the 'regular' tint I have on my other vehicle (which has limo tint). Here are a few pictures I took today....Sorry about the crappy camera.

I'm still amazed that any state allows tinting of windshields.

The front windshield is tinted 73% (including the driver's and passenger's front windows). But the tint is so light that you can barely tell at all (the pictures taken w/ my crappy camera cannot justify the 'clarity' / 'clearness' of the front tint). You can get an idea how 'clearless' the front tints are by referring to the picture where I was sitting in the driver's seat facing towards the hood w/ the steering wheel (3rd picture from the bottom). W/ the sun shinning bright out today and a temp of 72....the cabin actually feel a huge difference (in terms of feeling the heat from the sun..maybe even the UV but I ain't sure how to feel UV though) compare to when I didn't have the tint or even w/ the 'regular' limo tints (madico) in my other vehicle.

the only thing dumber than tinting windshields is tinting headlights. it should be against the law. there is no law covering stupidity however.

Thank you for your comment and the great choice of words like 'stupid', 'jeez' and 'dumb'. One word to add to your vocab is the word 'respect'.

I've been looking to tint our EX35. Yelp seems to like Tints R Us but there is no info on Premier Mobile Group. Your job looks great and I'm leaning in that direction. Did you look at other shops and what were the factors that led you to Premier?

Question though.
Why did you tint the windshield. Was it for cosmetic reasons? Or was it to help your visibility?
I'm not trying to flame, but curious as to the reason.

I do understand, a bit, the tinting on the upper part of a windshield as many OEM's do so already. But my curiosity is for the entire windshield.

Dale512 / RedwinGV:
Yes I did look and research around the area for a reputable tint shop. Quality of work is a major concern. I nailed down b/w California Auto Glass Tinting (http://www.calautotint.com/) and Premier Mobile Group (http://www.premiermobilegroup.com/index.shtml). If you google 'Premier Mobile Group', you'll get tons of results many from M5 / Lexus / Ferrari / Porsche etc. They have shops in both Nor Cal and So Cal. California Auto Tint is also very reputable. They've been in business for a very very long time. They tint from edge to edge because they take the entire glass out before they apply the films. I visited both companies personally. Both had some vehicles that just had tints applied on the windows and I could see the quality of work is superb. Premier Mobile Group didn't take the entire glass out of the vehicle b4 they tint, but still managed to tint VERY CLOSE to the edge. The final decision was based on the quality of tinting films used. I had tint to my other vehicles before, back then I only care on the quality of the work but didn't know much about the quality of the films. Some people tint for the look, some tint for security purposes...Some tint for the effects / benefits they receive afterwards. Yes I care about the 'look', and yes I also care about security (just a little bit though), BUT I care alot on the benefits of the tint / film the company uses. The type of film that Premier Mobile Group uses is far far superior than most other tint shops in the area. You can seriously feel the difference b/w the Diamond Cut IR Tint films and the 'other' films (such as Madico / 3M Chrystaline / Suntek / V-Kool). The amount of heat rejected by the Diamond Cut IR Tint film is the most amongst all of the above mentioned. I was given a scientific demostration / test that showed me how much heat was 'blocked' from these types of films.... Diamond Cut IR Tint was able to 'block' the most. UV was also 'rejected' 99%. I wasn't thinking about tinting the front windows at all since I didn't want to get a 'fix it' ticket. But Diamond Cut IR Tint has a 73% tint available that is almost as clear as stock front glasses / windows but able to provide the impressive IR and UV rejection at a rate MUCH better than various limo (5%) tint! I also saw a 911 GT3 and a Nissan GTR that Premier just tinted w/ the Diamond Cut films and you barely see the front windows tinted. Now like I've mentioned before, the reason why I had to tint was more for 'health' issues w/ a little bit of cosmetic benefits to the car's 'look'. Price wise of course is a concern too unless you are the Fed who can keep on printing $$ and raising its own credit line... Yes you'll for sure find a place where you can save some $$, that is absolutly ok of course! But speaking for myself, I care alot about the quality of the films, the quality of their work, and the benefits from the films as a result. And that was why I ended up choosing Premier Mobile Group. It's been a week since I got the tint and there's never a single regret for tiniting all windows... never a single regret to pay more for the tint.... My family and myself felt very different (the good side of course) b/w the type of tints I have in this EX compare w/ the other 'more popular Madico' tint I have in my other vehicle. It's been cloudy / rainny lately except today. Today's the day I got to really test the tint. After having my car parked under the sun for 1.5hrs at noon time (temp outside was 77), I opened the doors and sat inside the car and seriously felt the benefits from the tint. The amount of heat blocked (hence kept the inside cooler) was alot more than the Madico tint in my other vehicle. When I drove on the highway (101North) around 6pm today, the sun was directly shinning on my face BUT I don't feel much heat at all! Yes it's still 'bright' and had to wear sunglasses, but the feeling you get from the tints is unbelievable. If you have time, do go visit Premier and ask for a demo (call ahead to let them know you'll be going so they can spend some time explaining and demonstrating the effects from their Nano Diamond Cut IR Tints.

I've been too busy last couple of days and hence I might have went a little bit off track / not knowing what I had typed so far but I hope I answered your questions / concern.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the Premier site and the cars they work on...which are way out of my league in an EX35. But they did a great job on your EX. I'm going to take your suggestion and make an appointment and visit them. I'm not completely adverse to paying more if the value is in the work and product. What I didn't like about Cal Auto Tint was that they take the window out of your car...just another thing to make some noise when it's put back. FYI: I'm thinking of just having the back tinted so it should be less expensive and take less than the 5.5 hours it took for your EX.

Dale512,

Yes, Premier has done alot of work on exotics / super cars..But they are very professional and won't (at least as far as I know personally... thru friends... online forums) 'look down' on you based on the car you drive. They care alot about every cars..whether it's a Civic / F430 / GT3 etc. Talk to Sam, he's the President there, tell him that Jason w/ the Infiniti EX sent you.
And you are correct about Cal Auto Tint. They do lots of work for Audi of Stevens Creek... But the only thing I don't like is they take the window out from the vehicle first which, like you said, might create some 'issues' or at least worries me.

Good luck w/ Premier!

Jason: Thanks for the post regarding Pemier. I had my tinting done today...took 3 weeks to get an appointment. They were very professional and had answers to all my questions...and it looks great. I mentioned your name to Sam when I made my appointment and he said he remembered you. I would recommend Premier Mobile Group to anyone who is thinking of having their windows tinted.

Dale,

Glad that things working out nicely. Once u experience the heat in the summer (which is kinna crazy lately since it's already approaching late May and we are still in the 60s), you'll really feel the difference. Like I told you before, I have all the windows tinted and I'm very very happy with the result especially the heat rejection part!

By the way did you happen to buy the cleaner for the film? I didn't buy that last time I got the windows tinted. But I am thinking to go back to grap a bottle since these filmes cannot be cleansed w/ windex and so far I've been cleaning w/ 'mist' only.

Did you stay throughout the process? or you left and came back afterwards? Last time we stayed most of the time and spent our time playing w/ the PS2 (their PS3 console was out) at their lounge. I'll be back there on the 27th afternoon. Maybe we'll catch each other if you have time to stop by.

OP great post by the way, i've always looked to 3M for tints but the product(and shop) you've found sounds amazing. Did your EX come with factory tinted glass? i know my Z has green tint to the windshield. It looks clear to me but must be for UV or glare reduction. Have you noticed any improvement with night driving? Around here it seems that everybody has thrown on an ebay HID kit onto their non-projector lens car. Needless to say i often find myself dangerously blinded.

Anthony,
I didn't pay much attention if my EX came w/ factory tinted glass. Maybe just on the rear windows and the hatch. In terms of improvement w/ night driving, I haven't had an incident when being in front of a tall SUV / truck w/ HIDs (lucky... :D) at a stop light w/ its HID focusing right on my head. But simply driving on highways / local streets, it never bothered me much from the headlights behind me though. Maybe because I have one of those Broadway Convex rear view mirrors and those don't reflect lights that badly. Next time when I drive at night I may pay more attention and may be able to provide a better explanation on this thread.

Jason,

They didn't have the window cleaner at Premier but Sam said it's made by Stoner and is called Invisible Glass. I went to Wal Mart and they had it for $3.47 or $3.97...can't remember the exact cost. No, we didn't stay and when we came back, it was done. I wish I had stayed to see the process though. After thinking about the film for three weeks, we didn't get the Diamond Cut IR Tint but got the standard tint instead. It's guaranteed like the Diamond Cut against purpling and bubbling but doesn't reflect heat like the Diamond Cut.

Jamesstock- as always great stuff, thanks for sharing.

I was googling tint for my resto project and found this great thread again. Being a hater of windhshield tint too I was skeptical but having the glare off the dash board cut and the heat soak decreased is worth a bit of distortion at the bottom.

Thanks for the pics, :dblthumbs:
