These laws may not be current and are often enforced differently by different PD's. In all cases, refer to you local authority for enforcement policies, current laws, rules or regulations. Your current state law is the final authority, not this website! The numbers represent the percentage of light transmitted through the tinted glass, so the lower the number, the darker the film allowed. Generally the films are sold as 5%(limo), 20%(dark), 35%(medium), 50%(light).S.U.V.s often have different regulations, which are not listed here.

Not to nitpick, but you may want to amend the NY laws: it actually happens to be 72% not 70%.

I've updated the posting in the FAQs. Thanks If anyone else finds anything wrong with their state's numbers, let me know and I'll correct them. Also show some proof with your claims.

Further clarifications of WA state law (RCW 46.37.320):The listed figures above are correct for passenger vehicles.SUV's have limits of 35%/5%/5%/6"/film as long as it has two side view mirrors.

ALSO, there must be light REFLECTION less than 35%. Mirrored finish is banned, as is red, yellow, gold, or black tint materials (hence why almost all tint here is charcoal).

I haven't gotten my Versa's windows tinted yet, but on my '05 Sentra I had dark as legal and it didn't help too much, especially since I live right on the Atlantic coast!

British Columbia. Nothing permitted ahead of driver/passenger shoulder. Rear tint appears to have no limits. For all Canadian regulations refer to this link;

Net means how much light has to pass through the window, film means the percentage of the film itself.
