Hey everyone

So i finally got tint on my car, from tint king. Has anyone else had problems with their tint adhering to their rear window at the top because of the Dot Matrix?...I was told sumtimes i doesnt stick well because the tint cant adhere to the window between the dots......I was told to give it about 2 weeks....and if it still hasnt stuck then they will probably have to put a black piece of vinyl......which would suck because we all know the rear window is just big enough to see out of through the rear view mirror!

Let me know how ur tints turned out! It'll help me out alot.

Tint film does not like to adhere to the dot matrices. My tinter did not put tint on my dot matrices. My Eclipse had that problem too and black vinyl was placed to cover the dot matrix. I mentioned that to the guy tinting my Altima and he said that he doesn't like the vinyl... in his opinion it looks like crap. He also said that the vinyl has the potential to heat up and crack the glass due to thermal stresses....whether or not that is true...I do not know.

In my opinion, it looks just fine without the tint, or vinyl, covering the dot matrices.

Hope you get yours figured out!

hey prlwhitecoupe,I got mine tinted last weekend, waited a few days and the matrix looked a lot better. Right now it looks pretty darn good. I didn't need the vinyl strip on the outside.

Give it a few days and see how good it turns out.

If the tinter is good, you should have no probs with the dot matrix. I just got my car tinted last weekend and after a few days of curing, it turned out great. I had it done on another car I owned years back and it went 6 years with no probs on the dots.

Hey guys,

a lil update on my dot matrix issue; its now the 3rd day since ive gotten my tint and it seems to have adhered well....however theres still some air pockets like folds in the tint.....not sure how those are gonna be fixed on their own....prolly have to take it back....

Funny, when i called in to find out a price on tint..the guy asked me what car...and i told him Altima Coupe....hes like "the new one!?" im like ahh yeah....hes like bring it in! I've been wanting to tint that!!....hes like just bring it in, ill make it worth your while!.....im like ok......the dude just ended up charging me the normal price......i was like...alll right dont see how he made it worth MY while...but neways...what a d!ck lol....

Ill give it a few more days and hopefully it'll settle well...the tint IS lighter on the dotted area than the rest of the window....but what can ya do its not noticeable unless u know ur looking for it....maybe ill take a pic and post it up.....infact im gonna do dat now!!

Glad to hear it turned out ok. Dot matrices are hard to tint. I know tint shops do their best to make it adhere properly buy you might still have a few spots. I've heard of some tint shops actually lightly sanding down the area.

ouch! Folds in the tint isn't a good thing. The air pockets usually dry out on their own, but folds won't unfold themselves (sorry, just had to add that in). But yeah, if there's folds, definitely take it back because that's not normal.

I assume you've been letting it sit in the sun most of the time. But the guy who tinted my car gave me 20 bucks off... it's not much but 20 bucks is 20 bucks. And he and his crew were excited to work on their first A/C.

But yeah, I'd give it 4 more days (to make a week), then I'd take it back and have them look at it.

yeh i used to tint cars on the side, the tinter just has to scuff up the dots with a scotch brite pad to give the tint something to adhere to, otherwise it will just lift off and look like sh$$

I went back to tintking, and they told me the folds are the tint still drying....its been about a week....and i DID get the high grade tint which they said would take awhile to dry.....and i dont know if its just me or that other ppl have experienced this...but the tint in the rear quarter windows has very small air pockets...the guy told me its dust and theres nothing they can do about it......basically he was trying to tell me that im being way too picky...or maybe that ive got too much time on my hands......is this normal? arent professional installs supposed to be spotless!???....

Any suggestions...

Dust is unacceptable, thats why it should be cleaned thoroughly and in a clean enviornment.

Ask them if they want referrals lol

Wow, it really sounds like the dude isn't very experienced with tinting. Do yuo know how long has he been doing it? Is it a reputable shop? The folds and air bubbles are NOT normal. My tint came out perfect; no folds or bubbles. Unfortunately, most of the time you get what you pay for. I'd go back and tell them to redo it. If you paid by credit card, threaten that you'll put a stop on payment unless they tint it to a satisfactory level. Good luck.

Wow, here in Hawaii, most 2 door cars will cost between $120-$150. The four doors are usually between $150-200.

In NY, no 2 door would be over 150.

It all depends on what type of tint you get. Some tints are made of better quality thus cost more money. No different then buying a LCD TV, you can always go to buy a Vizio or spend a little more money and get a Samsung, I bought a Samsung.

I perfer FormulaOne Tint, thus I spent a little more money. If I drop $32K on a new car another $100+ on Tint is worth it too me. Too each their own.

Kaya...I got LLmar ( i think thats how you spell it)... dyed tint.. Lifetime warranty...

What could cost that much more on the physical TINT... i feel like the actual TINT (regardless of quality) cant cost the shop more than $25 bucks or something like that...

True in the quality of tints. Mine cost $200 for the coupe to be tinted with Llumar tint. The shop is known all over in the southern tier of NY. This is the 5th car he's tinted for me and I've always been satisfied with the result!

As for your comment about the Vizio vs Samsung, you are sadly mistaken! Sounds like you shop by name brand and not compare apples to apples. BTW, both brands uses the same processors and processing boards. Hook either of them to a Toshiba or Sony Blue Ray player and you'll see that the Vizio has the better picture. I know, I compared the Vizio, Samsung and the Sony 1080P before making my purchase. Can't be more happier with my decision. But then again, that just my opinion.
