Hello everyone,

I want to put tints on my windows, but I am wondering why do some of you have a darker side and a lighter rear, like 30% side and 10% rear, while some of you have a lighter side but a darker rear, like 10% side and 30% rear? What are the pros and cons of each configuration?

I will appreciate your advises

I've never known anyone to have a lighter rear than their sides...ever.As for having a lighter sides, there could be a number of reasons. For me, it's because having lighters sides makes it ever so slightly less noticeable to the 5-0. If it wasn't illegal, my sides would be just as dark as my rear window.

I think you have those backwards... 10% would be darker than 30%. And I haven't heard of anyone doing a lighter rear than sides...

I have 35% on my door windows, and 15 (or 25)% (I can't remember) on my rear corners and rear windshield. If tints were legal all around I'd have 5% all around but I do this just to keep out of the way of the cops.

Sorry that was almost a direct double post to ESP

The differences probably have more to do with regulations from state to state. Here in my state you can have your rear window as dark as you want but your sides cannot be any darker than 30%.

I had 5% all the way around but had to have it removed because I got a ticket. I just left the rear 5%. Looks fine to me

I typically like a uniform percentage all around but I guess it doesnt matter now.

Good luck on your decision

Thanks for the answers everyone. I think I do have it reversed then. When you say "10%", do you mean "10% light transmittance rate", meaning on 10% of light passes through the tinted glass? Is there any issue seeing at night with 10%?

I put 5% in the back windows, nothing in the side windows (it's illegal here). It is pretty hard to see out of it at night, but you can still see when there are street lights. It's perfect during any time that is not really dark out. I think most cars get the standard 15%.

Ya 10% would mean 10% of light goes through.

I wish I would have done 5% all around, or at least 15. I will have mine removed and retinted whenever I have money that I don't want to spend on other mods.

Honestly, tint is a personal taste.

My sides are lighter than my rear because I have a reverse camera and can use that to see out of.

During the day, the rear tint makes the side tints look darker than they are.

During the night, the side tints look as they are-- and I can see out of them just enough.

My sides = 35%Rear = 18%
