Main reason to make this change is to cause mass confusion and it seems to have worked so far. Now I know that a Nissan is not an Infiniti, and Infiniti is part of Nissan. I’ve drove the M45 and really liked it. A 06+ M45 would have made a great replacement for my 2000 STS but couldn’t swing the price or fuel mileage. I also know that fuel prices won’t ever average back down. Therefore the Altima 2.5 SL loaded up fit my cash and fuel economy needs.
I’ve liked the looks of other Altimas shave but didn’t want to take off the burger and wanted to replace the stock badges with something unique. Infiniti/Nissan M45 = 4.5 L V-8, M35 = 3.5 L V-6, 2.5, 1.8 and so on. My thought was that M would equate to luxury and 25 to the liter size of the engine. That was my theory in creating the M25. I searched to see if anyone else had done this but didn’t get any hits so it seemed sensible to me.
Why do we shave our cars, clean look, easier cleaning, remove identifying badges, have people ask themselves “what kind of car is that’. Hopefully Nissan/Infiniti enthusiasts will look at my azz and give me a thumbs up as they blow by in their 4.5, 3.5s. Hopefully others will ask, “did Nissan come out with a M series”? Let the confusion continue. I stayed in the Nissan family. It’s not like putting a S2000 badge on a Sentra or something.
Not Michael, not BMW, or Maxima; just Nissan preference.
Anyway, took the “Altima” off the left side, 2.5 SL off the right with 12 lb test fishing line which left a lot of mounting tape on the car. Used bug and tar remover with a credit card to remove the leftovers. The letters had some tape left on them but most was on the car. I cut the decimal point out of the 2.5 and filed down the rough edges and used the M from Altima. Touched up the edges on the 2 and 5 with a little chrome paint. Mounted the 3M tape on the letter/numbers, warmed up the paint and letters with a hairdryer and applied. I used a straight edge and level to get them applied properly. It’s staying. _~~
