I have just recently rebuilt my ka and installed it into my car well the head gasket blew. Well when I replaced the head I stripped that dreaded bolt that goes through the idle sprocket, so I re did the timing chain and the head. Well before I put the timing chain on I turned the engine several times by hand and was not sure if it was at top dead center or not when I installed the timing chain to the idle pulley. I turned the engine over by hand again to see if it would jump time or not and it would not line up with the marks on the chain until about 10 or so turns. I did not think anything about it because eventually they would line up. After they lined up I just put everything back together as normal. now it will not start. I was wondering if it might be possible that the crank angle sensor is telling the ecm one thing and the cam angle sensor is telling it another.

did you set your distributor properly. if not you need to make sure that the dot on the crank piece is in line with the mark on the shaft of the distributor.

Since you aren't sure, I'm gonna go ahead and guess you didn't install the timing chain correctly, you probably also didn't line up the distributor correctly.

The best reference would be the FSM, which you can find a link to by searching on these forums. In there, there is a detailed guide on installing the timing chain.

You may have lined up the top mark, but you have to make sure the mark on the crank is lined up, too - otherwise it is useless.

Also, did you set tdc before you started removing stuff? If you aren't sure, then you probably have to start all over (relatively).

It's a daunting task, but you need to at least make sure you know the correct steps or you can easily blow your headgasket (or other things) again really soon.

Also, KA only has a Cam Angle Sensor (distributor).

I though so because the fsm said that the crank angle sensor was only used for on board diogonistics of a miss fire.I was not sure though. I did install everything correctly on the timing chain side the problem is that when I turn it over by hand non of the marks line after I place it on top dead center. Is this suppose to be that way. I also lined the distributor up and it seamed like it wanted to start, but just could not get there. I tried to move it one notch clockwise and two counter clockwise. I am not sure what is out of time I just know that it is out of time. thanks for the help.

It doesn't matter. You use the colored links and line them up with the dots, one on the idler sprocket and one on the crank gear. Then you install the cam chain by matching the colored links on the dots on the cam sprockets. Then there is a line on the outside of the idler sprocket, match the third colored link to that. If you got that, it could take up to 10 turns to make them all match up. I wouldn't worry about it. If you turn it by hand, and don't hit a valve, then you are fine to crank it with the starter. Timing the distributor is easy, just pull the #1 plug, shove a screwdriver in the hole, and bring it to TDC. Or if you are a weenie, you could use the marks on the crank pulley and timing cover. Then you take the distributor and point the rotor to that cylinder. Then you finely adjust it with a timing light. I like to use the screwdriver trick because it can be hard to see if there is grease and gunk on the pulley and timing cover. But the pulley is a better way of doing it because you can use it to get it timed correctly. Good luck!

How did you find that, just checking in the fuses or did you run codes that told you that. I would assume you wouldn't get anything if you blew the main link. I wouldn't even think it would crank, please let me know.

I blew that fuse once, while changing out the oil supply line. I accidentally got into the alternator hotwire with a wrench.

Glad you got it fixed!

This isn't AIM or gen chat ladies...stay on topic and don't completely jack a thread to BS with someone you want to snoodle with offline.

LOL, thanks, for changing what I said, but it was the only way I knew to get ahold of the guy, so cut me some slack.
