timming and car lagging problems,need help!

So,I adjusted my timming just like on the tutorials.and the car seems to run fine,for a while,then begins to lag. I notice the catalytic converter was glowing red hot,but there is exhaust comming out the muffler . could the o2sensor be bad or maybe the CAT be bad.i notice after this happens I adjust the timming again and it seems to work fine again for a while. I don't know whats rong,please help!

for one, we need more info. if ur cat is glowing, go get a new one put on, or depending on your emissions law, cut it out and put in a pipe. glowing cat is not good.

Did you retard the timing on an NA vehicle? I hope not sounds like your retarded and your the unburnt fuel is collecting in the cat.
