my car died the other day 95 240... anyways i wasnt getting any reponse from the throttle, i turned it off thought i might be just the throttle cable, came back then it wouldnt start, so then i was stumped took it to a shop they took off the valve cover and he told me the timing chain had skipped a tooth, now he quoted me 1700 before he took the valve cover off for it, i dont think that sounds right for it to be off one tooth, how screwed up could it be, i thought about a new engine since theyre cheap but mine only has 89k on it, i dont wanna bother with one with twice the mileage.

i searched but everything is about the damn guides.

Wow it skipped a tooth! I'd double check with another mechanic first. even if it did why would you get a new engine? Yours only has 89k on it. All you gotta do is realign the damn thing. Anyways thats my 2 cents. Good luck dude!

You can't just put it back one tooth. If you do, it will just happen again.

As far as the price to completely replace both chains, $1700 is high. Most shops are doing it for around $700-1,000.
