hey guys!i just bought a 92 hatchback and the timing isnt quite right. the person i bought it from advanced the timing to try to squeeze out a few more hp in the higer rpms. my friend and i retarded it the other week and it ran well for a while. then it started to idle real low and would somtimes stall. then i figured that maybe the timing was too low so today i tried to advance it a little but no matter how i moved the distributer the timing did not change. oh and also, there are no timing chain guides according to my mechanic. the timing seems to change without warning. what do you guys think?

no, i don't think chain guides would have anything to do with your situation. The timing guides were probably removed bcs they pose more of a problem later than help.

What is your timing set at right now? and are you sure you are looking @ the timing mark correctly (perpendicular to the crank pulley center, not straight down) - I only ask this because I used to look at it at the wrong angle.

If that is all done, then it's not your timing, it's something else. No engine check lights? I would check out the idling problem threads if I were you (if that is the only problem you are having).

actually, now that you say it i dont think i was looking at the timing mark correctly. also, do you have one of those cool pages on setting the idle because im thinking that might be waht it is now.

listen to me and brokenAS240sx very carefully. do the timing right.

for the ka24de it should be 20BTDCfor ka24e it should be 15BTDC

check your marks on the crank pulley. find out where they are at.
