my friend and i went to advance my timing.we did it like we were supposed to. correct me if im wrong. let my engine warm up. kill engine. unplug the tps. start up and set at last mark on the lines. kill engine again. plug back in tps. then good to go. well when warm it drops to 500 rpm and when i take off a little hesitation. i want to know also there are 6 lines on the( i cant remember what its called) but which is top dead center. and where is the best place to set it.

top dead center is second from the left, I belive its -5,0,5,10,15,20. TDC is red(it is kinda hard to notice the differance in colors, its not excactly a vivid red but look hard...) You can search for timing and probably find some threads about what you can safly advance it to, it also depends some what on the octane of the gas you burning. factory specification is 20 BTDC wich is the last mark on the right but I have read people run some were around 25, just watch out for any signs of detination

Detination, when the gas exsplodes instead of burns like its supposed to, realy not a good thing for your engine, Ive heard of it discribed as sounding like "a soda can full of BBs" by another member on this board, its kind of like a rattling ping...or according to the author of Automotive Engines, Diagnosis-Repair-Rebuilding "Detination (Self ignition due to pressure increase) is commonly called ping. It occures when the unburnt portion of the air/fuel mixture explodes violently after spark ignition has occured...Detonation is a race between the flame front and heat build up durring combustion. If buring of fuel is compleat before the temperature reaches the point of detination abnormal combustion will not occure"By the definition Id assume that by retarding your spart far enough you are giving the spark to late a start to burn all the fuel in time to prevent detination.

BTW searching is fun! timing turned up 316 results in the 240 section alone, Id imagin most of what I said could be found,=good
