I had a coolant leak and my car over heated and now that I fixed it. it seams to be surging and I cant get the timing right I set it to top dead center and the car runs like crap and I have to set the timing back to get it to run smooth. does anyone know what the timing shound be for an sr20det black top.

thanks

15 degrees behind tdc. Thats why it runs better when you turn it back.

If its at TDC, the combustion is horrible.

when looking at the motor from the front with a timing light hooked up, what mark is 15 degrees? I think it is the second from the left but is this standing in front of the car looking down? Mine is like 5 marks from the left if I'm standing in front of the car looking down.

The only reason I ask is because I got some detonation last night at 5000 rpm.

http://www.store.yahoo.com/pha....htmlPhase 2 has a great page that explains how to set the timing using the CAS.

Yeah, I knew how to set the timing at 15 degrees but I was just wondering where it should be when looking at it with a light.

That image explains it all, thanks!

make sure you get all the air bubbles out of your coolant. the stock temp sensor plays on the idle and may affect your ability to set timiming.

thanks, i'm pretty sure my wiring is good. have you guys found any problems with the instructions that are readily available on the net or in mags? they all seem to be the same to me.... and i think mine is right......
