Unless you have the California model, I beleive that is correct. I will have to take some time and read my FSM.

hello all i'm new here my dad pass away and i got the truck the motor was blow up in it so i put another motor in it and it acts like the timing is out when i put the motor in the truck i had to change the distuber in it cause the wires was diff on it than the one that was in it and you know that the dist on the these trucks comes in 2 halfs when you pull the dist out the gear part stays in and the top half comes out here is my question since i change the top half of the dist did i knock it out of time and if not what could it be its runnin rough it idles real high and backfires a little whn you give it gas and no matter how much you turn the dist or adjust the carb it still does the samething any help would be very nice i want to get it back running right since it was my dad's thank you

what kind of engine is it. does it say Z on the valve cover. if not check the right side of the engine to see to engine number. let us know so we can help.

When you removed the distributor, did you loosen up the block that mates up to the engine block. I removed my ditributor and put it back in with the block tight, it would only go in 180 out. I loosened up the block and reinstalled the ditributor 180 from what I had it and it ran fine. If you try this make some marks so you will know it's position.

no i didnt loosen the block all i did use loosen the dist top half and put the new one in

Go out to your truck, mark the posistion of the distributor where it sits now, so you can realign if what I tell you does not help. Now remove the upper half of the distributor. Loosen up the bolts on the block and reinstall the distributor top half, it should now be 180 degress from where it was before. Tighten it all back up and test.

thanks dogred next question the timing light goes on the intake number 1 spark plug right i dont know anything about these motors

Timing light hooks up to the exhaust side, I believe.

ok lets see if i have this right hook the timing light up to the number 1 on the exhaust side and unhook the vac line turn the distributor until the timing is on its mark then tighten up the distributor and hook the vac line up and she should be in time right?
